  • ill be back later to catc up properly, but wanted to say this for a while lol

threads like the big yellow fb comp, well thats an ongoing weekly comps so imo should be posted as one thread and bumped when the prize and question change every week/fortnight instead of posted as a brand new thread every time. likewise hello, the yours mag find sammy squirrel, the weekly find a character in tv mag for 10 quid to give a few examples...basically any comp that uses the exact same url for the brand new one as soon as the old one finishes. that would save the thread maintainer a bit of work as well,a s all that would need changing in the daily thread is the prize info, rather than the link to the post each time.

so i want to ask those of you who post these comps every day/week as a brand new post why do it that way rather than as one thread when many other comps work well as one thread?

...wasnt the idea of the regulars board as a place for all comps that would have threads that needed bumping regularly so as bumps didnt happen on main?

so id say thats what should go in there, a thread that needs answers daily or weekly or whatever like sugar etc. and be linked in appropriate reg thread
threads like the sci fi cmps that are merely a post and daily entry need linking to the daily thread but could stay on the main board

Really hate the idea of having comps within there own thread as having limited time it means that I have to go to the end of each and every thread instead of just clicking and entering, the more comps that are done this way the more time consuming entering them will become :(

also by having multiple sets of rules for posting on the regulars board with some regular comps remaining on the main board only makes the boards more confusing for regular comp posters never-mind newcomers

Al Mac hit the nail on the head when he said that people like things simple and that's the way it should be instead of entering comps on multiple boards they should be all together in one place and certainly not in there own threads which only results in slowing compers down

I'm sure you will disagree and that's your prerogative but I am also sure that there will be many that will also disagree with your opinion but there voice is not being heard so the debate is becoming one sided

most of the people on the main board don't visit comps discuss and are unaware of the debate going on, and the opinions in comps discuss only at present reflect the views of the vociferous minority

the debate now needs to move forward and involve all mse users and for this reason the debate should have a place of prominence on the main board so that every MSE comp user can contribute and voice there opinions

it is vastly unfair to consider only the opinions of a select few and then make changes to the regulars board as is now being done with multiple post's being transferred from the main board onto regs and it also being done covertly without telling any of the posters and users that post's are being moved

Glad now needs to finish what she has started I note that while the changes with the daily and monthly stickie formats where being changed Glad was viewing the comps discuss thread about the new changes but chose not to comment about them which makes me think that Glad already knew about the changes and had agreed to the changes beforehand

whatever happened to "no changes will be made until the changes have been discussed"

I so agree with you, I find the magazine comps threads get really confusing with all of the chat that takes place in there. Personally I would like all comps in individual threads on one board with a link to the Regular Board for those that are considered regulars for people who like to comp from there, it worked for the Advents.

What I found baffling is when Glad started moving posts we were told a trail (usually says moved and when u click it, it takes u to where the thread has gone) would stay on the board for a while, but that never happened, If it had at least we could have noticed something had been moved. xxxxx

I'm a little hurt by the above and although I don't need to explain anything to anyone I will

I had intermittent internet on Thursday and have had no internet at home since Friday
Saturday afternoon I was visiting a friend and I took my laptop to hook into her internet mainly so I could check my pm's from compere and do any merge/move requests, I also had pm's about the ongoing discussion and started to read it but seeing how many posts there were I didn't comment as I wanted to read it through, but not at someone elses house whilst visiting!
a new member has agreed to take over the daily sticky and the only thing I did was stick her new thread and link to it from the old one!
I didn't expect to get back online and find someone has assumed they know what I know or think and post it here
I also logged in first thing this morning from work, again to check pm's, and managed to sort some of them before starting work

I still haven't read through the whole thread as I'm just in from work (early for a change) and the only reason I know about this post is someone has phoned to tell me!

but briefly, until I've read it, MSE is privately owned and run by a paid team (not volunteer BGs)
the comp board has a sub board for regular comps and any comp that can be entered daily, weekly, monthly should, at the moment, be posted there. Some people insist on posting these on the main board anyway and some threads get overlooked and have stayed there, partly because the workload here was too big for 3 BGs, hence asking me to become the 4th BG

until the team decide differently then the above guidelines should be kept to, what some of you are asking for is a change to the MSE comp boards/rules so that all threads are on one board, that will have to be put to the team, and I wanted to take the time to write it out with everybody's ideas, and even when I do that they have so much work on MSE that it won't be an instant decision

as well as the comments here I've also had many, many pm's from people offering ideas/advice so don't just assume that most people aren't reading the discussion, most people have stated they would rather not post their opinion publically! all of these pm's can be shown to the team to show that it's very divided on what people want but the majority seem to want a reg board but in a format that works better for searches

yes I did move some reg threads over when the discussion started, but since then I've only moved over obvious threads from the main board or threads that have been pm'd to me to be moved and the other BGs have been doing the same

I said we would continue the discussion after Xmas and I'd come up with some ideas, it's the 10th of Jan!!! and I do have a fulltime job too, without the fact that I haven't even been able to read the discussion for the last 3-4 days

so at the moment comps should be posted in the correct board, threads will be moved to the correct board by BGs as they are made aware of them, and after reading and discussing for a length of time I'll come up with some ideas, we can play around with them and then decide wether the majority want to put forward ideas for changes to the MSE team, and wether the team will allow a poll on those changes, which is what I said before Xmas

thank you for that Glad, it is appreciated. I think it is so easy to misunderstand things, and to assume something that may not be accurate in a forum.

I am sorry that you feel hurt, as I am grateful for how proactive and open to discussion you have been since joining the Comps Board as a BG.
My light may be on, but that doesn't always mean I am looking at the PC - I am far more likely to be cuddling or feeding Tianna atm, so please don't think I am ignoring you if I don't reply quickly :)

hiya, if i remember correctly hjb tried to do the Real People as one thread & there was a few peeps against it, i was watching it
as i'd originally said it could be a good idea to have the weekly mags on one thread (as in tab monthlys, puzzler)
stickie (as in the postal/texts) etc,
reading through the majority of posts most peeps seem against the idea of one thread & the monthlies/comps being moved into regs, i was going to give it a go with the f/house. that's life, pmup, but when saw the replys to hjb's test for it it's kind of put me off the idea,
i joined here in 2007 although i'd been 'lurking' for ages before
& since this place started they've always been posted separate
& puzzler/tab monthlies on one thread each, on the main board,
so i'm thinking it's best to leave them as they are now.
please be a responsible pet owner & spay/neuter your pets, too many strays & not enough homes for them sadly. k2u58ioz4c8e.png
