Hi
Have a look at this page
http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=295326&page=18
in this thread, it details what the Challenge is about and how to work it out what bronze, silver and gold milestones are

Thanks for that link. I did wonder what the Bronze/Silver/Gold thing was all about. I like the idea of percentages - some people don't mind discussing in depth about their money, and although I like the anomity of this site (being able to hide behind a psudenom (sp)) I don't fancy shouting about it.
Not sure how this will work with me, as I only started saving at the beginning of this month. I'll have to save like crazy just to achieve bronze.

This thread looks very interesting - trying to see how you are calculating your %ages but the thread is soooooooo long I have not had chance to read it all.
I think you are taking your take home pay, deducting you fixed out goings (utility bills, mortgage, rent, etc) and your groceries to find your disposable income and then calculating how much of that was saved compared to being used on ' unnecessary' items
Have I got that right?
All my friends think I am incapable of spending money so this is something I could be good at !!!HOW MUCH CAN YOU SAVE?: OLYMPIC CHALLENGE 2007BRONZE 10% SILVER 25% GOLD 50% PLATINUM 75%January 7%February 13%March 20%April 27%May 32%June 39%July 45%August 54%September 62%October 68%0 -

Hi Mr Tall,
I have spent way too long on this web site today - very interesting seeing how much everyone else saves even though it feels like I am being nosey by reading everyone's conversations. My friends and family think I am weird as I always look at the price of everything and never want to buy anything unless I think it is VFM - but then they all have debts and I have savings.
Any way the reason this messages is addressed to you is that one of your posts says you went to the same college as me! how spooky is that, I think I could have been at RIL (Southlands) the same time as you!HOW MUCH CAN YOU SAVE?: OLYMPIC CHALLENGE 2007BRONZE 10% SILVER 25% GOLD 50% PLATINUM 75%January 7%February 13%March 20%April 27%May 32%June 39%July 45%August 54%September 62%October 68%0 -
Heh - if you include the value at which savings have gone up by as savings - I've saved 113%!
If not, about 80%.
Yes, I save too much. Actually, it is more that I earn a decent income from a job I enjoy, but just don't have the need to spend - I found out long ago that money, above a certain amount, just doesn't buy happiness.
So I end up not spending about half of my pretax income.0 -
