I know what you mean. I've accumulated quite a bit myself (just under £70k) and wouldn't be able to get much of a mortgage on my salary (one-bed flats in half-decent areas of London being £0.3m)... which is why I'm taking my hard-earned cash out of the country to try and get on the property ladder elsewhere!
SuzeSaving for a house deposit too, I've currently got just under £45,000 saved up but with my pitiful wage I'm still no closer to getting a house, bah!I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Savings & Investments, Small Biz MoneySaving and House Buying, Renting & Selling boards. Hi Suze,
Wow! That is amazing savings!!
So you would rather move abroad than move somewhere in the UK that is cheaper than London? You could get a 4 bed detached house in the Midlands where I live for £300,000.
It has gone up an awful lot since we bought our first house about 10 years ago it was only £38,000 for a three bed victorian semi then and we sold for £129,000 which was lucky for us but not for first time buyers!
You are doing really well, keep going!!:D[0 -
Hey!
You're doing well too
Yeah, I think I'd rather move abroad to be honest. I'm not sure I like living in the UK any more, and it's not just London that's expensive  I wouldn't be able to borrow anywhere near enough to make up the balance for a £300k property either...
I'd kill to get my hands on a nice little period property (esp at £38k!!!), but that's going to have to wait I'm afraid

Roll on pay day!!!0 -
From the Alvin Hall website I went to another site where there was a calculator that tells you when you will be a millionaire - given interest rates and monthly incomes.
I will be over 90! Still it can be done.0 -
Transferred another £4.78 to my ISA today.
moanymoany what site is that? It'd be fun to have a look!Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind.

Hi
Been a while since I posted in this thread. Today I will find out if my application for voluntary redundancy has been accepted, so I am waiting nervously for a yes. This will impact on my savings as if I am accepted I will get a decent pay-off. Then the plan is to either work for myself or use the time until I leave my employer (which could be a couple of years) to arrange a good exit plan. Fingers crossed for me.0
