True... maybe you could start off doing a few jobs in the evenings and weekends for friends and family at mates' rates just to get some practice - so you are familiar with the surroundings and they're not going to go mad if you take your time over it etc. After all, the best form of marketing is word of mouth and once your confidence increases you might find that your market does too
Congratulations on the baby btw - not sure if you mentioned that before!

I have been doing a night class over the last 2 years and have just qualified, I still need to do a couple more courses, the regs and testing and inspection and I will do this in the new academic year. I am a little apprehensive as the course was mainly classroom based and the practical side of things was done in bays in a workshop, so this is not anything close to the reality of working in somebody's house. Without the redundancy payment I am pretty stuffed really as I am the main breadwinner at the moment as my wife is expecting our second child, so my hands are financially tied as it stands for maybe the next 2 to 3 years.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Savings & Investments, Small Biz MoneySaving and House Buying, Renting & Selling boards. Hi :hello:
Hope you don't mind me joining? I'm saving up to buy a house, not sure how much I've currently got be circa £25k, all from ISA's, RS, HIA a bit on premium bonds and just not spending - my ex OH did enough of that with my money so went into overdrive when we split up! Have got to pay back 0% card next January but hoping with one of challenges on DFW board I will have enough spare for this rather than use the house buying money. Hoping to get a better job and relocate soon so would rent for a bit before buying a property elsewhere.
Not too sure what the bronze, silver etc part yet - sorry my eyes started hurting about 1/2 way! But think I got gist of it, trying to save around 50% of my wages.

moanymoany what site is that? It'd be fun to have a look!
If you google 'millionaire calculator' it will come up with a few sites. They are in dollars, but the theory is still the same.
Alvin Hall's site is interesting and so is Hotmail home site's money section where I first found all this.0 -

Thanks for that - link didn't work though but found the message, had stopped around page 16 when my eyes started hurting! Better aim for silver then for remainder of this year, did a rough idea of how much savings I have and realised I have approx £28k in accounts that I could find last night (but that's everything so not all on savings) - shame that I can only afford a retirement home (which I'm too young for) or a caravan in my area, unless I get serious promotion at work (dropped 10k last year due to leaving job due to workplace bullying) for current salary and savings.
My friends from NZ have adopted me as another daughter as I'm over there more than their daughter who now lives in USA; if I don't get a decent job here within certain time frame I will emigrate to NZ. Couldn't think of another name at time.0 -
Transferred another £6.87 to my isa today. its going up slowly but steadilyBe who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind.

I have just found this thread and am keen to join to get motivated to save.
I had been on the MFW board but quite rightly it was suggested that I build up a good emergency fund before I carry on paying off the mortgage.
I would like to save £12,000 as a good nest egg, this is 6 months of mine and DH wages obviously it will take some time but it would be a brilliant achievement for me.
I have just opened a Cash ISA with Egg and have a savings account with A&L, just £2 saved at the mo!!!! Need to pay a bit into my overdraft then should be ready to save Full Steam Ahead.
I have always been terrible at saving so any suggestions would be more than welcome.
Oh and hello all :wave:0 -

Good luck on reaching your goal but remember you must elimate all debt before you can start saving since the interest your paying on borrowed money is higher than any savings you will haveHad £80,000 in Savings - All GONE!!! BYE BYE:A Single, 27, Aspie, Gooner :A0
