Wow, I just noticed your sig, you're going great guns! How long has that taken you?

Thanks :D it's taken me about a year and a half to save the £18,500 so far - I'm going to keep saving until the end of the year and will see how much I have by then :D

My wages are really good in the summer, but the winter season is not great.

I've read through this thread, well I read the first few pages, some from the middle and the last 10, and I would love to join you.

I'm in a similar position as some of you, I'm trying to save for a deposit for my first house but I have fallen off the wagon recently so i was researching on MSE and stumbled accross you guys.

I'm all fired up now so on monday I will finally get round to transferring my ISA to a better rate! Only 3 months late!

I've set myself the punishing target of saving 2/3s of my take home pay for the next 6 months! I will probably miss the target but if I don't stretch myself I won't save as much!

I've decided that my only hope to reach my target is to put away my cards and only pay by cash, does anyone else do this?

    Thanks for reading my ramblings

I guess you could say that I've swopped my addiction for spending to one of saving...but hell, it's a lot better for body and soul :)

    What a great line :T

Well finally got round to dropping in my ISA transfer paperwork (Georgie you're not the only one who's a bit slow off the mark!). Also got confirmation that my regular saver has ended (with a measly £70 interest) so I will close my Barclays saer and transfer that to my main account next week and then I'll finally know how much I have saved once the transfer's done.

Thanks it always nice to know your not the only c**p person, do you know what makes it worse I applied for it the first day of the new tax year!

shwholesale, I know it can seem really difficult, I earn a normal wage for my area of the country, I'm by no means on the bread line but I have been in the past. The only thing I can tell you is to start small. My first target was £50, it took me 4 months to save this but when I had I was so proud of myself, I went into starbucks and spent £5 as my reward!

I pay for things with the debit card or cash. It is hard to get started with saving but i have set up a regular standing order which goes to my isa of £50 a month. I do it at the beginning of the month so i don't really notice. Also another thing i do is put change -5ps, 1ps, 2ps in a jar and then bag them up and add them to savings. Its not much but it all helps.

I don't like to pay in cash at all, it's much easier to keep track of what I'm spending if I can look through it online. Otherwise little things don't get accounted for but do add up.

I don''t think I'm as disciplined as you, I'll just hand my card over and not give a second thought to the amount I'm paying out. If I actually have to hand a wodge of cash over it makes me think twice!:D
