How much can you save?

Do you ask for £2 coins in your change as well, to boost your savings a bit? Or do you just take what you're given?
Suze
I almost feel like it's cheating to ask for them!
Mostly I tend to take what I'm given though have gotten wise to where I can get a plentiful supply from – putting a £20 note in the machines at various tube stations for a smallish fare tends to net me around £16 in change... all in wonderful £2 coins! If I don't respond to your posts, it's probably because you're on my 'Ignore' list.0 -
Hurrah I've just worked out how I've done saving wise this year and i must admit I'm pretty astonished I'm £496.85 off doubling the target I set myself at the start of the year! So to celebrate i've just spent almost £90 on an mp3 player. It's red!
My ISA is pretty much sorted again after the icesave issues earlier this year, once the cheque clears it's going to be locked away with the Cheshire for a year at 4.5% not quite as much as I was getting before but better that I expect rates to be when it comes to putting next years isa away.
I've finally moved my money out of ING, it was worth opening the account for the £25 welcome bonus, but its time to move on! It's also almost time to get the interest on my esavings accounts linked to my current account, so that's a nice little boost for the end of the year!
How has everyone else done compared to their targets this year?
Happy new year everyone!:D0 -
Ooh, back on the £2 coins hunt...
Paying for something costing less than £1 at Tesco's self-service counters using a £5 note tends to net a couple of £2 coins! That way I get chocolate AND £2 coins!

I have approximately £18000 worth of savings which I've only really accumulated over the last two and a bit years.
Generally I tend to go out quite a bit and go to a lot of music gigs which is a great passion of mine. However, I need to save for a house deposit and am planning on buying in 2010 sometime.
Last year I substantially cut down on the amount of gigs I went to, and this year I plan to cut down further.
I hope I can save another £10,000 in 2009. I have set up a regular saver with the Halifax for £500 a month, which will account for £6,000 of the £10,000 I want to save. The other £4,000 I will find a savings account for.
I have £6,600 + whatever the interest is to date in a Cash ISA.
I also have an A&L regular saver which matures in February. I was paying £250 a month into that at 12%. I'll leave that in my savings till April and then immediately put into my Cash ISA on the first day of the new financial year.
I've also put £5000 of my savings in a YBS bond paying 4.5%. Although that is only for 6 months. I was thinking of a year, but didnt want to commit just incase the house/flat buy happens sooner than planned.
I also have around £2500 in a normal savings account which I will need to find a new home for. I'm thinking of going for a Tesco savings account and adding that each month.
Hopefully by early 2010 I will have £28,000 in savings, which will be by half of a deposit, so £56,000-£60,000 between us. Which should put us in a good position to buy, I hope.MFW 2015 - #88 £3,345 / £3,500
MFW 2014 £2,990,MFW 2013 £7,905, MFW 2012 £12,216
Opening Mortgage Balance (15th July 2010): £200,999
Current Mortgage Balance(2nd July 2015): £150,999
Total overpayments to date: £30,292.00

Next year you can enjoy watching your savings increase and house prices fall!If I don't respond to your posts, it's probably because you're on my 'Ignore' list.0 -
Thanks, I have become a bit of an obsessive about saving nowadays. I'm pretty determined to get this deposit together. Years ago I know my parents struggled badly with debt and I don't want to be in that kind of position myself so I'm pretty determined with this.MFW 2015 - #88 £3,345 / £3,500
