How much can you save?

Not checked in on this thread for ages.. currently spending, have a conservatory on order and being put up in January, so, it is being paid for from savings.
Now, rubbing my hands together, from Jan through to end of April I am leading a project at work and it will mean lots of working into the evening, I do not usually claim overtime, (it is not generally done where I work), but for this I will ask.. I am sure they will say yes. The alternative could be they offer me time of in leiu later in the year. Personally I would prefer the money though. I am thinking by April I could have earned what would have taken me 8 months to earn. The upshot is that I am going to make an extra effort to save lots in 2009.0 -
Thought i would join this site!!!!
Im 18 and saving for a deposit for a flat that i can rent out for an investment when im older!!! I have got around £6000 saved up i think and this will hopefully increase as i have a well paid part time job!!!
I am addicted to saving and now even my brother/mates think im going a bit crazy to get my flat. I have one student account which is maxed out and im going to open another so i can earn interest on that and use them both for part of my deposit. I earn around £8.50 plus bonus and have just increase my hours at work, im also a student and get a full bursry and loan. I live at home so my outgoings are very low, just rent, mobile, shopping and partys/nite outs!!!!
I have been reading this for a while and noticed that people do a budget which im going to start in 2009 so i know how much i can save!!!
Im really commited to doing this but thought i was going a bit mad but after hearing other peoples view it seems im not that bad, just wanted some help and encouragement from people to help me save the most!!!
would appreciate the comments guys!!!0 -
18 eh. M/F??? Mwahaha.
What ya studying?
I started my budget a couple of months ago and its highly inaccurate lol. It starts off with thinking you'll spend X on this and Y on that, and it turns out to be complete poo. Suppose as the months go past it gets more and more accurate
I only have £10 budgetted left for petrol HA, thats not happening, at least £30.
My car needs a new clutch, luckily mum will pay for that! She hasn't got me a big xmas present so thats alright, that can be my present :rotfl:0 -

Dont forget to use your Cash ISA limit of £3,600 per year lol
When I was 18 I had about the same amount of money as you and I was doing nothing but saving until recently because saving for me has just become boring because I have been doing it for so long and I am not doing anything with my money so watch out by the time you reach 24 lol. All my friends (If any) tell me that your wasting your time saving your cash and I should get myself out every weekend but I am rubbish at socialising so I dont see the point!Had £80,000 in Savings - All GONE!!! BYE BYE:A Single, 27, Aspie, Gooner :A0 -
So what have you been spending your money on??
When I have enough I want to buy a business franchise and this:

Tesla Roadster, obviously by the time I can afford one they maybe a bit out of date and a new one comes along, but omg beautiful and 100% electric0 -
Hey
Im male lol, and studying business and hopefully going to uni in sep 09 to stdy economics!!!
Yes ive used my cash tax allowence £3000 from 07, and £3600 for 08, and just working out how much ive actually got as ive got money in loads of accounts!!!
Im a very sociable person but i dont drink so save a lot of money there, plus wen we go out try and get in b4 12 to clubs as its free plus a few of my mates work in bars/clubss we all get in free.
Dont get me wrong i do spend my money, but everthing i buy i never pay the RRP on anything
1) I shop at all saints, ted baker, topman etc (like designer clothes) always use vouchers, promotion codes etc theres nothing in my wardrobe that ive not paid full price for!!!
2) I have a contract phone through cashback which i no a lot of people say it doesnt work but im in my 4th contract doing it and it DOES WORK! (Last year i got a 12month free contract for 12months!!!) And a free phone which was not that good but sold it for £20, all i had to pay were 5 postage costs to reclaim the cheques, this cost a fiver so i still made £15!!!!
3) Everthing i buy or want i usually search through kelkoo for the cheapest etc, check ebay and buy it from there if its cheaper then the shops!!! Anythign i dont need i sell on ebay old clothes etc.
4) I bought a few expensive things over the last yea like my camera rrp £130 got it for £90 haggled in comet!!!, my macbook had a promotion, buy one get a free ipod nano and printer, sold the printer for £50!!!
Im so addicted to saving, is it just me? but i stil can afford nice things, probs cos i stay at home and save loads in rent etc
Im going to count to see how much ive got before 09 starts!!!!

Enjoyed reading your post there ilovesaving. Full of useful tips, I might add.
Seems you are studying some useful subjects there. I am quite interested in learning economics and business studies myself - am thinking of embarking on an Open University course next year. I have studied some law and the equivalent of A level business (some years ago now, lol). Want to give my brain a re-charge.
Like yourself I am addicted to saving and have found it very hard to part with some of my hard earned cash this Christmas. That said, I decided to take off my scrooge hat and spent about 150 pounds all told on Christmas presents this year. Best of luck with the saving and welcome aboard this forum - I an old hat at posting on this forum, although haven't posted for a while as have been soooooooo busy lately. (If you scroll back you might catch a glimpse of my posts from the early days - with a bit of humour added in!).
Best wishes

Hey folks (and welcome ilovesaving - I can tell you're going to fit in here just fine!)
Just thought I'd post and wish you all a very merry and MSE Christmas, and a very happy, healthy and PROSPEROUS New Year, for you and all your loved ones.
It's been a funny old year for us savers - the first 9 months were wonderful, but I'm still reeling over the last three! (My ISA is 3.25% *SOB*). Let's hope things pick up in the economy as a whole, in 2009 - I think we'll be making a few more sacrifices first! (Negative interest, anyone?). Thank you all for the help, support, advice and friendship you've all given me, in my first year here!
I'm not going to be around for a couple of weeks, so I thought I'd get my seasonal message in now. Enjoy all the festivities,
Lucy xx
