Just got paid so i have put £600 away in my savings for december!

My esaver has dropped to 3.2% which is really rubbish. If i close it and open another saver somewhere else will they give me the interest so far even though its only been open around 6 months? or would it just be easier to wait for interest day then switch?

In 99% of cases, you would get the interest accrued up until the day you close it. However, there are some accounts to watch out for, e.g. with Nationwide's e-savings plus account (which is new), if you close it, interest is only paid at 1.5% up until the date of closure, instead of the normal 3.75%. Check the T&Cs (specifically, the section on withdrawals/closure). If it doesn't mention it, you should be ok.
  • ISA down to 3.25% :(

OUUUCHHHHHH!!! I've had enough!!! I'm going to go spend it all if they decrease rates anymore :(

    6.25% to 3.25% in 1 month, 3 weeks and 4 days :( It hurts!!!

    Boohoohoo

    Lame....

I did all my xmas shopping and then didn't look at balance, finally did and it was -£950 (out of £1000 OD) EEK, so I have put money in from savings into it (which I had budgetted to do but I thought I might be able to get away with it).

Got a couple more things to buy but I am working at the weekend so that will pay for it plus a little petrol then working a couple of other times.

Still owed £90 from housemates, when I go home tomoz I will ask for it. Then in Jan I will ask for a month in advance.. just in case.
  • You want to start getting tough on your house mates. Threaten them with court action if they don't pay up in full within 7 days, and say you'll charge interest!

I just had a thought... KaupthING Edge (:p) is starting to look attractive again... 4.55% AER anyone? I didn't close my account... and I'm quite tempted to bung £100 in there (it's only in HSBC Online Bonus Saver atm, with a stupid rate of 2.25%... I should move it at the beginning of next month as I don't think I'm going to need it now).

I want the good old days back :(

Anything you're saving up for loopy? Any aims in terms of £s??

Yeh even though I am owed money its not too bad as the £500 depoist (£100 in each persons name) is in my name, so if worse comes to worse I will just take that.

I got an email today from IBM for my placement, one of the hiring managers wants to interview (phone though!) me to see if I would suite the role, thats on Monday so I am pretty much bricking it at the moment, should be ok though. Although saying that my 2 other placements I went for rejected me after phone interview. However Microsoft did say I was very good but I didn't have the exact skills they wanted hm. :o
  • hi nah no aid.. just work work work!! i work roughly 12-18 hours a week term time.. overtime if i have no assignments.. and fulltime summer easter and christmas(39-55 hours a week). i pay my own rent bills food etc and have no help from family.just saveing for general life stuff.. not sure really.. i had a really good job when i was 15ish nannying children everyday in holidays nd helping them with school and weekends.. roughly 150 a week and i simply didnt have anything to spend it on it all just sat in my everyday bank account... so when i was 16 i went on lots of holidays with my friends.ive always had the mentality tho that if i want it i should earn it... i know i am working in a school for 3 weeks in june(for£600) and just pondering whether to get some part time work in the finance sector 2/3 days a week in summer.. course i'd be working evenings and weekdays/ends.what degree are you doing?

Computer Games Programming (its not all playing games) at Staffordshire University.

All good. I am a student ambassador but its very casual so I work when I want, which is useful, but sometimes I won't have work for a while.

I get money from grandparents for living so I can save quite a bit each year.

Hopefully with next years placement when I get one I should be able to save quite a bit more!
  • yea thats good.. i know its not playiing games i do a ' Mathematics of Graphics and Virtual Environments 'module and thats game programming. thats well nice of your grandparents. so what you saving for then? you taking a year out next year? mines just a 3 year course in my 2nd yr atm..
