Not sure how much to spend on mums wedding either. Theres only a few things on the JL (expensive ) wishlist - £13 for a cup and cupplatethingy, she wants 8. She doesn't even drink that many cups in a week! Between me and my OH I think we'll spend £30/£40 but OH has no money at the moment so I think I will be paying for all of that (and after all it is my mum getting married :rotfl:)
When one of my cousins got married her wedding list (from a VERY expensive online shop) requested 12 of everything! This shop was selling one fork for £13 and my cousin wanted 12 of the damn things! (Not to mention the 12 similarly priced spoons, tea-spoons and knives! Eeek!)
Just remember that it's perfectly acceptable to just buy 2 or 4 of the cups and saucers, leaving another not-very-well-off guest to buy the remainder. After all, it's not as if anyone getting married these days NEEDS these items to set up home as most people have adequate versions of these things already – they probably just want a new matching set!If I don't respond to your posts, it's probably because you're on my 'Ignore' list.0 -
Yeh I need to buy something else for my gf! So far I got her purfume she wanted and a DVD we both want (:p). Would be nice to buy something else but shes not one to make a list or anything and it can't be expensive, and I want something romantic. So pretty much no ideeeea.
I hate it when people don't make lists. I just hate getting people something and then them not liking it but pretending they do and keeping it in the closet for years and years.
Yeh briona thats what I think. I shall still be splashing out, as she did pay for a room for me and gf that night even though its her wedding!0 -
I wouldnt know where to start without a list. Though I do always find a couple of surprises to chuck in with the rest.0

I got married this year and our list had a huge range of prices - lots of nice cheap stuff - like £3 napkins. BUT no one bought the cheaper stuff - not sure if they felt embarrassed or what...? Infact most people were quite generous -some surprisingly so. The only exception were a couple of members of the OH's family, who although being basically the richest people we know were spending less than many of my elderly relatives who live in council houses...
... Maybe that's how they got so rich in the first place...? :0)0 -

Try reading 'The Millionaire Next Door'.Thats basically how it goes, don't spend loads, budget well etc. and save for the future and soon enough you will be frugal enough to become a millionaire.

I paid £60 in tax over the summer from my old job (Dominos) and so I want to get P60 from that so I can claim it back, but they never do it so I doubt I'll ever see that money meh.
If you left Dominos they won't give you a P60 anyway. Didn't you get a P45? And payslips. You don't *need* a P60 to claim back tax - go for it, phone HMRC and tell them you don't have P60, but can prove what you earned and what you paid in tax.

Jewellery always goes down well! It doesn't have to be expensive jewellery - I keep dropping hints to my bf about a necklace I've seen in Wallis, that i'd love to receive for my birthday... it's £12 with matching earrings for about £6, but I'll be ecstatic if he takes the hint. He's not allowing me to tell him what I want...Target Cash Net Worth: £25K by January 2012

Ha thats nice. My gf doesn't like jewellary. I boguht her a necklace for her birthday first year we went out and shes worn it once or twice in the 3 years... ha.
Yeh they don't give out P45's because sometimes they like me to come back in holidays etc. so they tend not to. I think I will have to fill in a tax return form anyway because I earnt over £2,000 which I think requires me to. So least I can have that as an excuse to kick them up the backside.
Ouch though, I went out last night and spent £30 opps. I wasn't aiming to spend that until I go home after uni! Eek, nevermind! I will be working more than predicted anyway so its not toooo bad.0 -
When did you start saving btw?
Around 6.5 years ago or basically when I turned 18 and my mum gave me £500 for my birthday back then. Paid it straight into my account and then shortly afterwards when I got my first job I just left money in the bank because I didnt need to spend it because I would of just been wasting it.
My targets were £100 per week from November 2002-March 2005. Then the target changed to £500 per month afterwards when I started my current job because I am on monthly pay and my old job was weekly pay. I currently overshoot my targets by over £200 a month on average.Had £80,000 in Savings - All GONE!!! BYE BYE:A Single, 27, Aspie, Gooner :A0 -
I'm getting really into my saving now since I have a real motivation and reason to do it
The £2 savings pot grows steadily and goes straight into my ISA every time it reaches £100. I'm saving on a monthly basis and am due a Christmas bonus (£500) with my next pay packet, which of course is going straight in the ISA. The short term savings pot's on target as well (mainly for my car insurance in April).
I will not be demoralised by the new spate of low interest rates! :j0 -
Yeh. Unfortuantely I can't fill my ISA up until Feb which is annoying because I would have liked it to be fixed at a decent rate, no chance now I guess, nevermind.
Overbudgetted on food shopping this month, aimed for £30, spent £34 oppsy. Just waiting for incomes to come in so I can see where I stand (come in on 15th and 17th), although technically I know how much I am getting.
I am still owed £90 from bills too and they've all run out of money, luckily I have plenty to spare and they can pay me back + more, in Jan when their student loans come in.
ARGH I bought a new battery for smoke alarm and it keeps beeping at me, damn thing.
Also, more or less done xmas shopping, few more bits and bobs and finished! Happy about that. I estimated £250 and was going to take £250 out of savings to cover it, but I may only need to take out a little (£100/£150) woop.0
