Well I'm 20 so I have 5 years. I aim to save £15k by graduation (22) then the next 3 years I aim to save £15k each year, totally £60k. So thats my longterm aim, £60k by 25. That would be a nice house deposit. My gf doesn't save anything, shes spending £300 a month on train tickets going into London and doesn't get a student loan because shes doin Art Foundation. Should be ok next year when she starts doing an actual degree.

You want to start getting tough on your house mates. Threaten them with court action if they don't pay up in full within 7 days, and say you'll charge interest!

I just had a thought... KaupthING Edge (:p) is starting to look attractive again... 4.55% AER anyone? I didn't close my account... and I'm quite tempted to bung £100 in there (it's only in HSBC Online Bonus Saver atm, with a stupid rate of 2.25%... I should move it at the beginning of next month as I don't think I'm going to need it now).

I want the good old days back :(

I left my KE open too and put back in a couple of weeks ago. I checked by phone with them a few days ago and they are adamant the rate is 4.55 and the accounts are still running smoothly. ING don't seem to want to take us on and I'm loathe to tie anymore money into 6 mth fixed rates as they're plummeting daily. I'm putting a few more thousand back in and monitoring it.
  • Hey,

Reading your posts Lokolo and Loopy about what you're doing at uni has got me thinking - do we think doing degrees which involve maths invoke more desire to save...? My undergrad degree was in Aero Engineering and now my PhD research is with the same department - lots of maths. hmmmm....?

Anyway just found out today my husbands xmas bonus is 2.5k - yay! - although taxable - boo! More that we can put into savings :0)

Also, I only have 6 months till I am 25 - oh dear...

    Thats good!

Woo my boss from before uni etc.etc. basically asked me to work over xmas because other people don't turn up. He also said he doesn't want to work boxing day at football so hes leaving us all incharge and to split the comission equally woooo, so thats an extra £10. Pretty much work from 12-4, get paid £30, I'll be happy with that!

We sell programmes... hardly work ;)

We stand there, reading the programme, chatting to our mates and football players

Also £7.50 an hour isn't too bad!
