    The £150 I got will cover all the off the books spending I've done in the last two weeks of term! So yay for that. Should be a bit left over to treat myself, I'm yet to do the sums.

    I am trying to work out a strategy for next year, I have my 6.3% fixed for most of next year, and should be taking advantage of that, but at the same time I want to take advantage of a low stock market. We shall have to see, but hopefully the Live on 4k challenge will help!

    New year is around the corner, we "How much can you save?" gang should have a project for 2009. Perhaps some unique way of saving that we can all share and discuss to encourage us throughout the year. What do you think everyone?

    I don't think that I'd do too well at a challenge! :o

    I'm a freelancer/contractor so I don't always have work or a guaranteed income. When not working, I rely on my savings. But I'm happy to sit on the sidelines and cheer everyone else on! :p

    I think having a goal is a good idea. I am still waiting to see what is going to happen to house prices before I start thinking about buying. Will continue to save up my deposit.

    Having just got back from the sales I am thinking about making Februry a frugal month. Anyone want to join me?
    Ideas for Frugal Feb:
    • Eat from freezer and store cupboard
    • Restrict nights out - have friends round instead as have lots of wine (Christmas gists) and Wii fit ( Gift too!)
    • No spending on clothes nor make-up ( if make up needed will use Boots Advantage points)

    MFW 91 op 2015 £4051/4000
    MFW 91 op 2016 £4040/4000
    MFW 91 op 2017 £812/4500

    * Savings Update - December 2008 *

    (Or should that be a spending update) I havent saved a penny this month at all and I just spent it on christmas and drink and whatever lol. In fact I am £200 worse off than this time last month - Arghhh - Its what happens when you bail people out for the credit crunch!!

    The percentage has been updated and its a final percentage of 90.0%
    (I did earn more money in 2008 than 2007 though)

    * Savings Review 2008 *

    Never mind I have set a new record of £10,906.13 for 1 year calender years savings (which £2,298.92 was earned through interest.)

    * Savings Target 2009 *

    The olympic challenge with the percentage game is going to be more difficult to obtain a high percentage because in 2009 I dont expect to earn as much money at work because they keep cutting our hours!!!

    I expect to save £10,000 next year unless I get a girlfriend.

    Happy new year all and good luck money saving!!!
    Had £80,000 in Savings - All GONE!!! BYE BYE

  • I would just like to say thanks to everyone here, Since posting in this thread I have found myself wanting to save more, everytime I read one of your posts at how well you have saved this month or something, I think to myself, Yeah! If they can do it, I can too!

    Cheers Guys, Lets hope 09 is even better than 08!
  • Hi All,

    Just a quick update from me - managed to save £550 this month, despite Christmas. So far have £1050 towards my target of £3600 by the end of the financial year.

    I think that it would be a good idea to have a target to work towards in 2009, or t least a challenge. I've had a pretty rough 2008 with being made redundant and therefore not being able to continue house purchase (but may have been a blessing in disguise). I'm looking forward to 2009 - I may have a job that's not much cop but at least I'm earning, saving and enjoying myself.

    One saving habit that I seem to have acquired is saving £5 notes. I thought that it would be a good idea as I never really seemed to get them that ofthen. Big mistake - I now get them everytime I break into a note. I'd say it was costing me a fortune but it all goes into my savings. Anyone got any ideas for a slightly less 'expensive' way of saving or something that's a bit more fun??

    The DFW board have the £2 club. Where you save all your £2 coins. Obviously less popular than £5 notes but they do a little job.

    What I tend to do is buy on card so I never have any coins. But obviously a night out I get cash. I keep all the pound and 50ps seperate from all other coins which go into money pot. Then with friends I swap the 50p and £1 coins for smaller dnominations which then go straight into the money pot.

    6 months I have got about £50.

    I was going to suggest the £2 coin savers' club as well! Since January 2006 I have saved every single £2 coin I have ever gotten, and I even have friends collecting them for me now as well.

    In two years I have collected and banked around £800-worth of them! Beware – once you start, you can become obssessed! :D

    Do you ask for £2 coins in your change as well, to boost your savings a bit? Or do you just take what you're given?
