I want to get my savings up to £25k this year for a deposit on a house
Hi JesaRose and welcome to the thread!
Best of luck with your savings – as I said earlier, no better time to watch the savings increase and the house prices decrease!

Hi everyone - this is my first post as I've only just stumbled across the site and forum! I'm a very enthusiastic saver so it looks like I'll be in very good company here.
I currently have £7400 in an ISA, plus almost £400 in another savings account. I've passed my ISA limit so when April comes around, I'll hopefully have a couple of thousand to put in the ISA from my current account.
I'm freelance so I don't have any fixed income and it's all a bit up and down at the moment, but I'm hoping to save another £5000 in 2009 (but would love it to be more). Once I get my signature sorted, I'm going to add that in as some kind of permanent visual reminder to keep me going!
On the small change front, I save all of my 1ps, 2ps, 5ps, 10ps and 20ps. I've been doing that for about six months and I've saved up around £22, which I figure is better than nothing.ISA savings: £25,139 Other Savings: £1750 (tied up in bond)0 -
Hi dippykitty (great name BTW!)
Looks like I'm the welcome committee here tonight – LOL – so, errr, welcome to the thread!
I'm freelance as well (a Graphic Designer) so I know what's it like not to be able to commit a fixed sum to savings every month – sometimes it seems like I'm living off them as much as I'm contributing to them! But when I can save, I can save a fair bit so it's swings and roundabouts.
Well done on the savings so far! Keep at the coin savings as well – I managed to bank £130 worth of coins a couple of months ago!
Happy saving!

Thank you!
It's nice to see other freelances that are in the same boat (I'm a freelance writer by the way, forgot to put that in my first post). Right now, I'm having a famine patch and not having anything much to add to my savings is really frustrating, especially as I put £2.5K in October and November.
£130?! I bet they loved you at the bank if you took all of that at once! They gave me a bad enough look for £17 last time I went.ISA savings: £25,139 Other Savings: £1750 (tied up in bond)0 -

I take mine to the Post Office and dump it all into my NS&I crappy savings account. My bank doesn't have counter service anymore so the PO is my only option. They wouldn't let me change it all at once though. I got away with doing £105 of it the first time (you can imagine that the queue of people behind me waiting to get their benefits/pensions were NOT impressed!). The following week I took in the remaining £25 – I haven't been back since though! If I don't respond to your posts, it's probably because you're on my 'Ignore' list.0 -

Hi coldstream and welcome to the thread!
Every little helps and you have to start somewhere but one thing you will come across on this thread is the Round Numbers OCD Club. Started by LucyTheDwarf (I think!) the idea is that you round up ugly odd pence to full pounds – the bonus being that you eliminate odd numbers and increase your savings! Get started by adding 24p to your £4.76 to make a nice tidy £5! You'll be amazed at how good it feels!
