  • A little update on my savings!

Still not touched my 16k, so very proud of myself at the moment. I could have easily gone into it, as I have been earning near too nothing in the last few months now I am back at College, But if I wanted to go out, and knew I did not have the money in my current account, I just didn't go :). I know its pennies to some of you on this thread, but by April 09, I want to try and save another grand! God Knows how, but I am going to do everything I can, so that April 09, I Can post on here and say I have 17k saved! :)

Good Luck to everybody who is saving at the moment, Hope you are all doing well!!

    Dear All

I believe I am on target for my savings with 6,000 pounds in total saved so far and I also have a bit of extra money from my freelance job to buy my brother (ah, my baby bruv although not quite a baby!) a boxed set of Joop men's aftershave too for Christmas (seen some really niced boxed sets in Boots). Yeeehhaaaa!!!! (sorry not very ladylike :rotfl: ). Could anyone who is an 'expert' on Joop enlighten me as to which may be the best version for a young modern professional young man who also enjoys the outdoors (there are three versions of men's Joop in the shop). It may be the one called 'Joop' only in the red bottle. Any viewpoints out there? Thanks.

    Best regards

I'd go for the redy pink bottle (maroon?) I've never seen a man wear/buy any of the other colours. it smells really nice :)
  • I managed to save 33% of my wage this month
Hopefully will save more this month

good news on the petrol front!
  • It's been a bumper money saving month. We have sorted out some household expenses and organised a few savings:

    Council Tax rebate - saves £340 p.a.
Extra income (tax and new allowance) - saves £468 p.a.
    Renewed car insurance - saves £58.80 p.a
    Dual fuel gas/electric - saves £240 p.a.

So just under £100 extra in our pockets each month!

Also £2,000 in backdated Council Tax rebate.

Still working away on the grocery challenge, hoping to save £250 p.m.
MFW Challenge (Tgt Date Nov 07): ACHIEVED FEB 07!
Mthly Savings (Tgt 60% of Inc): Average 41.67% (but we have just paid for a new kitchen!)
    Savings Goal £500k (Target Date 50th B'Day Nov 17): 30.41%

Getting a loan isn't worth it, and in the current climate it will be extremely hard to get one too.

    Save up first ;)

Thanks Lokolo :) That's a good idea, having thought about it again I'll probably just save up for it :)

On the saving front, I've finished buying my bedroom furniture, so next payday (Friday - woo!) should be more fruitful with savings. Booked the vet to come and see my pony (teeth need filing down), so that's going to affect the money a bit. It's annoying that I just can't earn any more money, I work full time, and I also have college work to do in the evenings - there just aren't enough hours in the day! Can't think of anything I do to earn money from home...

I have a nationwide e-savings account that doesn't pay interest until March.I'm thinking of scrapping Nationwide on account of them having pitiful interest rates, if i shut my e-savings account today, will the interest get paid into my current account or will i lose the accumalated interest from the last 7 months?

Mieran I'd call them up and see what they say - should be able to tell you on the phone.

Saving hard again in November as we still need all the liquid cash we can get due to IceSave holding all our savings at the moment. Using First Direct for any savings we can make for now until things get sorted in November.

Looking to save my mother-in-law money on her car insurance, maybe gas/elec as well. At home we may try to move to the O2 broadband deal, and stay with Virgin just for telephone.

  • I think I'm having a really bad month. Four days off sick at the start of October means my wages will be down - I'm paid on the 31st. However I did get a pay rise (quite a nice one too) which should mean I don't lose out too much. Also, I took 2 days holiday - so what with the holiday and the sickness I was away from work for 6 days - which means my expenses are down by about a quarter this month, as I didn't drive anywhere for them!

Still, I have simply spent way too much this month. I keep treating myself for no reason. I must stop. Current predictions (based on what I think I should get, wages wise) are that I will have saved 35% of my income this month. Which isn't bad but isn't what I want it to be. I want a minimum of 50% per month saved from now on, and I am going to have to be hard on myself. It's not easy though, people keep inviting me out to dinner, for a drink, to parties... if I say no I offend, but it's all so costly! And my car needs an MOT next week, and I really ought to stop putting off going to the opticians (I'm terrified - never been before, but really need glasses (which are expensive, of course)), and I'm going to a 21st birthday party in a week of a close family member (nice present required). I need a lottery win, really badly (but can't justify the £1 for the ticket). On the bright side, £9.40 on it's way from Quidco at the beginning of November.

EDIT: I've just gone and bought myself some CDs!!! I convinced myself it was okay, because I haven't bought music since 2006 and I had a £5 voucher. But it's not okay! I can't stop! Somebody help me!!!! And now I'm about to book cinema tickets for next weekend (James Bond - woo!) - I've become a spending addict! My bf better be buying the popcorn or I'm going to have to start financing these extravagances with a credit card (shock horror).
