How much can you save?

Hi all - I was having a really good month but when I checked my bank account on Friday it seems I've been a victim of card fraud. Someone has used my card to buy £166 worth of Dutch sportsgear (of all the things to waste my money on!) The Co-op Bank say it could take up to 30 days for them to investigate but I just really hope I get it all back in due course. In the meantime I've had to borrow from my savings so it's thrown me a bit of course, boo!0

Not had a bad month, I'm sticking to the "pay yourself first" principle and then I try to make sure I either find extra money to pay bills or cut back elsewhere to make ends meet. I usually manage to stuff around £400 every month but it's a tough one this month because we're moving house and I've had to pay out for a block of driving lessons. I'll get there soon though and hopefully get my test passed and then that's another expense I can shove into my savings instead of it being in the exenditure column, can't wait! :money:0

Sorry to hear that Markalun - a friend of mine was targeted too but luckily she had no money in her account and she has no overdraft, so they were not able to spend the £3k on QVC! She was very lucky.
On the 1st of Nov I am aiming to save around £400 (personal) and will also put £500 into the 'joint' ISA as Mr EL pays rent. Plus any £2 coins etc throughout Nov. October has been expensive so I am hoping for reprieve in November.MFW #185

hi all:)
I have just started to save again after a awful year. I am currently saving about 4% of my monthly income, while paying 18% on debt repayments. This will probably continue for another few months yet until the debt is gone at which point I will hopefully be savings about 25%.
I know the advice on not saving while you have debt, however I do not want to get myself in the position i was last year where i had become debt free by putting every penny I had into debt repayment, then the car and laptop died and i had nothing saved so had to borrow again. I feel this time i am doing things a better way for me. I am slowly building up an emergency fun, so that if the worst happens i will not have to increase my debt.:)
anyways, i read this thread everyday and cant wait to be saving the amounts you guys are!!!November NSD's - 70 -
You'll be one of us soon, Jamie! :j
Just wanted to tell you all that I haven't spent anything since Monday. I know it's only 48 hours, but after this month, that's an achievement!!! :rotfl: Be proud of me, I need the encouragement. Only another 36 hours until I'm paid, and another 3 days until my HSBC regular saver matures (wow, that year has gone sooo quick). When I have the regular saver cash, I'm going to kill my credit cards :T (interest free periods end in November or December) and max out my ISA for this year :T - then I'll celebrate by paying my other savings accounts the money that would have gone into the regular saver, and by not buying anything at all for at least 10 days. :A Let's see how I cope...Target Cash Net Worth: £25K by January 2012

* Savings Update - October 2008 *
Total amount saved for the month is £850. I decided I have a little a bit of fun and why not. After all the money is not all just there for saving because I have done like 6 day weeks at work for 10 weeks in a row now so I will be getting a little extra in my wage packet. According to the FSCS on the savings compensation for Icesave I should still recieve Interest on my fixed rate bond until expires therefore I am only going to lose £120 in Interest on the easy access and ISA for the months of October and November which is satisfying because I was expecting to lose £600 orginally.
I have managed to get my computer fixed with all the drivers sorted by put my old harddrive that has windows XP on it and it works okay besides it still crashes. I need to get an new DVD-RW because its toast.
The Percentage Has Been Updated.
Oh yeah I need a computer mouse because I destoryed Iit when spurs scored the equaliser in the 4-4 draw.Had £80,000 in Savings - All GONE!!! BYE BYE:A Single, 27, Aspie, Gooner :A0 -
Hi Markalun
I have been the victim of card fraud too. I empathise! When I moved house somebody applied for a new credit card in my name which was delivered to my old house and got it! I was rung up at work to be told that I had spent over 800 pounds on my card!!! - I found out later on a typed record that this included big purchases in sports shops, even a mobile phone (my immediate reaction there was that they could possibly trace the thief back through the registered number). My sense of humour only kicked in when I saw a very small purchase on the list for about 6 pounds - guess they thought they needed a break amidst all that shopping IN MY NAME to get the milk, coffee and biscuits in a local Co-op perhaps!!! lol Anyway I denied over the phone that I had made these purchases and they said that I had been the victim of card fraud, that I would be sent a letter and that I needed to sign it to say I had not made the purchases. I think the company then simply writes off the amount unless they are lucky enough to catch up with the criminals (I hope they persued that mobile phone purchase!).
Perhaps as it was a new credit account, it did not affect any of my existing accounts. I merely had to sign the letter they sent me and return it to them. End of story. Sorry to hear that your card fraud experience has impacted directly on your account and that it a protracted situation. I do hope it is resolved soon for you.
