OK since we're all friends here and hopefully don't judge, I'm going to reveal that I am in fact an Oldham Athletic fan. Can't have secrets can we?

What do you think about this guys?

I need to be saving for a deposit, however I've been working out some other things in advance. When me and my OH do buy a house, I'm going to be doing a circa 60 mile round trip to work. My current car is on 80k miles and I love her to bits. It wouldn't take long to rack up the miles on her, so i'm thinking about getting another car.

The idea would be to use my fun car (which has no loan outstanding on it) in the summer, then put it away and use to 'normal' car for the winter (so most of the year! :rotfl: )

Question is, do I get a loan for say £3000 now, and pay it off over a year or two, get that out of the way for when I get a house? Then try to save as much as possible at the same time? Just don't like the idea of having a loan whilst trying to pay a mortgage.

Getting a loan isn't worth it, and in the current climate it will be extremely hard to get one too.

    Save up first ;)

just wanted to ask a question.....

can you push money into the ING account by Standing order from your bank or can you only use the direct debit set up where the money is taken from your current account and credited to the ING?

    hope someone can answer me....

  • Hello all,
I think it is the right place.I saved £370 into my cash is a this month. That's nearly my allowance gone for this year, so next month I will finally be looking to pay some significant amount off my student loan.

grn.w.nv: Are you looking at getting a brand new car? If so i'm sure I saw a car maker offering 0% interest for their cars at the mo, now i cant remember who though! If it's not a new one i'd say it's dependent on how much you need a new one, and how long it's going to take to save for it. If it's not urgent why not start saving and then if you need one before you reach the target then get a loan. I assume though that you dont want to run old car into the ground, so all that may not apply.

One thought that runs through the mind though is its only a bit of metal, why have 2 cars? Have one and it will save you a lot in insurance, tax, petrol etc etc
  • Dear All

I believe I am on target for my savings with 6,000 pounds in total saved so far and I also have a bit of extra money from my freelance job to buy my brother (ah, my baby bruv although not quite a baby!) a boxed set of Joop men's aftershave too for Christmas (seen some really niced boxed sets in Boots). Yeeehhaaaa!!!! (sorry not very ladylike :rotfl: ). Could anyone who is an 'expert' on Joop enlighten me as to which may be the best version for a young modern professional young man who also enjoys the outdoors (there are three versions of men's Joop in the shop). It may be the one called 'Joop' only in the red bottle. Any viewpoints out there? Thanks.

    Best regards
