  • Some great posts guys!

This whole saving thing is all new to me - I cant believe they dont teach this stuff at school!!! Just wanted to say that I've only made a few small changes to my spending and im already saving £40 a week. It didnt seem like much until i put it into this savings calculator and saw what it added up to over a 30 years! I could not believe it! my target now is to get it up to £50/week...
Keep up the good work everyone! :T

Glad to hear it donreeco, welcome to the board :)

Do you have any specific saving goals? Saving for anything in particular?

No, nothing specific at the moment. It will just be nice to have some money to my name for once! ...would like to own Porche at some point though ;)

Terrible, terrible week. Spent sooo much. Friends' birthdays, DVD purchases, take aways, all the money saving sins!

So let's look at the plus side. The food shops were pretty big, and I have enough for at least 6 meals in the house, plenty of fruit, veg etc. I made expensive purchases of things like coffee which I didn't strictly need but were on offer so I save in the long run.

So my plan for next week is cooking in bulk, not taking the bus and trying to walk in to uni. No Amazon purchases. I'll have to pay my insurance this week, and maybe phone bill so that's £30 before we start, then I put £10 aside each week for bills...

    Trying to stay calm!

    Hi everyone,

Had a superb holiday. Did a little bit of moneysaving as got into the Royal Palace for free on Wednesday as it is a free day for EU citizens and also got nice trousers from Mango which I just need to take up. Unfortunately I am fighting tempatation this morning as had an email that the Office Sale Shop is closing down.

  • Added £500 into the 'joint' ISA today and £200 into my personal savings. Intend to add another £200 next week or so to my personal savings when some cheques come in.

With any luck the IceSave cash will be back with us soon - I think I will have 'only' lost around £100 in interest which is sort of a relief considering everything. Our Fixed account with them matured 25th Niv, so no loss of interest there which is good.

    Heyy!

I was meaning to ask you this before, I plan to go to uni in 2 years, how do you find saving up and going to uni at the same time? Is it tricky? do you have alot of out goings?

:o I'm really scared that when I go to uni, all my savings will just be down to 0 in a year :o
  • thats good news your regular saver pays out just at perfect time to clear those cards!

Almost like it was planned, eh? ;)

My internet's been down for what feels like ages, though it's just a few days. Freak bolt of lightning shook everything up! Hit a school nearby and wiped out their central heating, wiped out communications for everyone else!

But it's time for my monthly update! I've just this second wiped out two credit cards. Another had a shorter interest free deal, but I started it later, so I will kill that in December. Good stuff. I didn't do as badly as I thought I would last month, but only because work overpaid me. They didn't deduct my sick pay for the month, but left in the (smaller) deduction from the previous month. Damn my honest soul - the first thing I did upon checking my bank balance on Friday was send an email to the boss "You've paid me too much". He replies "Oops, I didn't notice - you could've got away with that one". I'm trying to persuade him to pay me my unused holiday allowance (it'll disappear if I don't use it before 1st Jan, and I'm way too busy to take any holiday) of 3 days, so hopefully I wont notice the deductions next month anyway.

Anyway, back on topic - I managed to save 31% of net income in October. It felt far worse than that. I want to save at least 50% this month to make up for that (interest income at an all time (non April) high due to regular saver, so it should be easy). My net worth stands at 28.4% of my target, which is nearly a third I guess, but a rather uninspiring number. Must try harder.

    Haven't spent any money yet!
