How much can you save?

It varies. At least £1k/month. I've just had a pay rise so that could go up, but I'm not yet sure by how much.

* Savings Update - June 2008 *
Time for my monthly update and Its been a good month for me with getting all that overtime back in may (I have been working 6 day weeks) which has made me rather tired to be honest but I aint going to knock a bit of extra work back when I know it will add extra to the pay packet. This month my Savings are an healthy £1,000. From next month my pay packet will have been reduced by £250 a month BUT that is for a sharesave plan which I cant effectively lose any money on.
The Percentage Has Been Updated. I have also reached GOLDHad £80,000 in Savings - All GONE!!! BYE BYE:A Single, 27, Aspie, Gooner :A0 -
Hi !
Following this website's advise (thanks!), last weekend I made some decisions about my money, so I thought I could share them with you all here :
- Transferred my Abbey Easy ISA (4.05pc to a Abbey Direct ISA Issue 2 (6pc for a year, variable).
- Applied for my company's pension scheme
- Applied for a weekend job ! (that will be hard work, though
I think the next step would be moving my Abbey E-Saver (4.40pc) to an IceSave (6.30pc)
That should help my monthly savings::j0 -

My mum very kindly let me off ten pounds I owe her today, so I put it in my ISA instead. Feeling pretty pleased about it too!“I could see that, if not actually disgruntled, he was far from being gruntled.” - P.G. Wodehouse0

Hi everyone - here's this months saving update for me, not such a good one even with the pay rise coming through! Think I didn't work any weekends a couple of months ago so didn't get as much!
So its 7.4% (of my total income after tax) for me this month - at this rate I won't even get my ISA filled up. Will have to do something about that pretty soon!
Hope everyone else is happier with their efforts this month!

Dear All
This forum is really great and giving me such inspiration. At present I have 4500 pounds in savings. I am aiming to get the figure MUCH higher and see that there are some truly serious savers on this site. I wouldn't mind hitting that 100k figure either Suze ;-) !!
I work in a fast paced job (an investment bank to be precise, so at least I am in the right place! ;-)) and my savings plan certainly spurs me on and on and on ..... I save everything!!!! (my friends think I am tight but I prefer to think of myself as careful! lol) - as much as my monthly salary allows ('pay yourself first'! - that's my motto), birthday money from generous parents, the extra freelance work I do aside from my full-time job, selling clothes in local second hand boutique, the odd car boot sale, etc.
I am saving for all sorts of reasons; security, possibly a house deposit for buying house second time around, (sold house some years ago so coming off property ladder and now house worth 3 times as much but hey we all make mistakes!!!), the occasional nice holiday, further study and following my interests such as amateur photography. First and foremost I just want to save a whole load of wonga and gloat over it! Lol! Hope you are proud of me Martin!!

wantosave - I am kinda inspired when you said in your last post you are partly saving to follow your interests in amateur photography. I think I am starting to go through a stage of realising what I want out of work and life and I am starting to realise (through a constant of staying late at work with no overtime being paid or flexitime given) that I want more of a life than work and that maybe I should do more things that I am interested in, so thanks for that! :beer:0
