  • Happy New Year :)

FIL was over last night, it is not a good time
of year for him as MIL passed away very suddenly
3 years ago on the 4th Jan :(

He is over again tonight and I am cooking another
"Christmas dinner", DD was at her BF's last night
but is coming back for dinner as she wasn't here
on Christmas day, she did say the dinner she had wasn't
    as nice as mine lol!!

Tree will stay up till 12th night but tbh I will be glad to
get back to normal, I love Christmas but it's been a bit of
a strange one this year for some reason.

    Hugs to all xx

Think I might come and join you ladies/gents/other......Have been washing and cleaning today so house is spick and span and bed is clean-sheeted and waiting for me.
I'll be taking my SC for a test-cook tomorrow and making soup from the pack of veg we got in Asda for 50p :D
I'll also be testing the blender to see how good it is at some point (probably morning and a smoothie with my porridge after my first run of the year)

evening everyone - hope everyone had a good new year

nothing happening here at all today - OS anyway. has been a bit of a bad day - well a bad week. but feeling a little more positive tonight. so for the new year i've decided to change a few things...

1 - i've come to realise that i need a routine. so thats the first thing to sort out

2 - secondly i need to start eating a bit healthier. well i eat fairly healthy but very not regular :o on top of that i would like to get a bit fitter. we have two bikes and a trailer for ds in the shed probably getting rusty :o alan wants/needs to shift a few pounds so it'll do us both good and spend some time together as a family. cheap too ;)

3 - as i just said, spend more time together as a family. we rarely do things together and its something that needs to change. thats starting tonight with a dvd once ds is in bed.

4 - we're setting ourselves a £50 a week food budget. Shouldnt be a problem if alan takes lunch to work with him (getting him to do that is the problem! but he will be leaving his bankcard with me ;))

i'm hoping things will start to come together if all of that happens!

Have just been listing some old CDs on Musicmagpie and made £21:j

NPM - I love you!! :A I have over a 100 old CD's gathering dust in my parents attic and had been wondering what to do with them. I'd toyed with amazon/play but they are worth so little and you have to faff with postage etc. This website seems ace, I love the fact that I can send them off in one package, for free!! I have listed the ones I have in the flat already and I'm up to £7, should have about £40 by the time I list the ones at parents! I also have some DVD's I'll put on too. Guess what I'm doing tomorrow :rotfl:

A bit late, but Happy New Year everyone xxx

Last night was ok, fell asleep and OH woke me to see the new year in. Agree the fireworks in London were great. Heard a few going off here but was watching the tv so didn't see them

Today has been a very busy day, took the tree down and got the room back to normal, did this while OH was nursing his headache, not a hangover aparently, just a headache :rotfl:bless him, he hardly ever drinks and the couple he had last night made themselves known.

Went for a nap at lunch time, got up and about 3 hrs ago DH decided he was going to sort the cupboards in the kitchen out, am ashamed to say I had tins and jars that were well out of date so they have gone! This will not happen again as he has made me write down what we have and the use by date.

Then we moved on to the cleaning cupboards under the sink, they are all now tidy, I never realised just how many microfibre cloths I have :rotfl:

Have had the huge gammon in the sc all day but we don't fancy it for tea tonight, going to finish the rest of the nibbly things we had last night I think.

Have dyed my hair today, its a bit dark but am sure it will fade, want to cut the back of it tomorrow, never liked the bit the hairdresser left and have been asking everyone to cut it off for me, no takers, so will be armed with a mirror and sissors tomorrow :D

Also tomorrow we are going to do some more cupboards, need to strike while the iron is hot, if OH is in a decluttering mood no way am I going to stop him! Wonder if I can get him to start on the loft too?

Have a good evening everyone xx

Hello and Happy New year everyone:beer:

We saw the NY in by watching the fireworks going off up the valley.

I have decided I really have to get on top of things this year before they get on top of me. I'm turning 40 this month and I am feeling some sort of panic that I can't really explain but I know the state of my finances and my house are just not helping.

    So for 2011 I will:

    1) Stick to my grocery budget of £175 pm for the 4 of us.

    2) Gradually de-clutter my house until it is easy to run.

    3) Lose more weight and reach my goal.

    4) Make overpayments on my car HP so I can do a VT before the end of this year.

    5) Not buy any new clothes unless it's by using clubcard vouchers or from a charity shop.

    6) Revamp as much of my furniture as possible taking inspiration from the Shabby Chic thread.

    7) Be nicer to my lovely Husband cos I can't half be a grumpy old twonk at times.

I think that's enough for the minute but if I do think of owt else I'll add it to my list.

Good luck to all those out there making resolutions.

A quick note to Bramble. JG is right about the coughing up blood. My DH was doing that last year and he had pneumonia for months. In the end the hospital had to give him 2 different 'industrial strength' antibiotics. He's still not fully right a year on.

  • Good evening Friends, and a very Happy New Year to you all!

We had a great night last night: we went to a local pub which was free (with a ticket) and saw in the new year, then back to a friends for food, a few more drinkies & some fireworks. Finally managed to stumble home at around 5.30 this morning, and was still sober enough to take my make up off :rotfl:

Fantastic night, with fantastic friends and a great way to start the new year. All in line with the plan for 2011 to be far better than 2010 :j

I'm not making any resolutions as such, as I'm a bit of a believer that you can make changes at any time of the year, not just 1st January. That said, this year we will be continuing with work on our house working from the top down. This means that I expect the loft to be boarded, floor and roof, and that at some point our bedroom will be decorated - at last!! Quote me on this on 31st December when neither has been completed! :rotfl:

OS today has been non-existent. From such a late night I'm using the superstition of no washing on New Year's day to it's full advantage, so I'll have to crack on with that tomorrow along with a teeny bit of Mr T shopping. Have managed to budget plan for part of the year today so would like to finalise that too before going back to work.

I'm off to eat some more of the Christmas food - it's a toughie, bit someone's gotta do it :p

    Evening all
Just popping in to share a giggle, one of our sofa's has bitten the dust, the seats are sagging really badly, hubby thinks it's the springs that have gone. A friend of a friend is an upholsterer & I'm going to ask if he can give us a quote to do a repair.
Hubby decided to upturn the sofa to see if there was anything he could do, there wasn't, but interleaved in the guts of the sofa was a decorative item of apparel made mainly of leather & lace! I wondered where that outfit was. I'm so glad hubby found it before we phoned the upholsterer & requested a visit! Imagine his face if he's found said item during his repair!
    Hugs Hester
