Good morning everyone, and a very Happy New Year to you all. France doesn't seem to 'do' New Year, in the same way as they don't 'do' Christmas - well, not in the way that the UK does. I really missed the fireworks and, because I used to live in Southampton, the sound of the ships' horns at the docks. Every house here has their shutters closed as soon as it gets dark (like containers on cargo ships!) so I suppose there would be no point having fireworks! As it turned out, we decided to stay up until 1 o'clock to see the new year in at the same time as family back home. We had lots of texts and phone calls, so I'm glad we stayed up for the extra hour!
I haven't thought about new year's resolutions yet, though.
Dinner tonight will be the rest of a lovely beef stew we had the other night.
Although it's a bank holiday, DH is still plastering which means I am washing out the buckets at the outside tap, and it's freezing cold with the thick non-lifting fog that hung around all day yesterday. We had to keep the lighting on all day - not very OS at all.
Anyway, I wish you all health, wealth and happiness for 2011.

yes - great idea,:T may have to steal it myself as I've got a money box - one of those cheap tin ones but it should do the job.Do what you love :happyhear0 -
DS2 got a papier mache kit from OH's aunt and uncle and was a bit lost as to what he could use it for, I've put them to work making me a swear box, and a money box for the £1 a day sistercas box. It's what is inside your head that matters in life - not what's outside your windowEvery worthwhile accomplishment, big or little, has its stages of drudgery and triumph; a beginning, a struggle and a victory. - Ghandi0

Good afternnoon everyone and a Happy new year to one and all.I was at eldest Dds last night for a little while then we drove up to her sis-in-laws in London for the Bells. We all had a smashing time ,mostly all family and a nice buffet.I had a glass of champers to see the new year in and then we all went out to watch the chinese lanterns that were all over the sky where we were.Very pretty they looked as well and seem to last so much longer than fireworks .The London ones were simply amazing but I don't think I could stand for that length of time. But brilliant to watch on t.v. I had lots of texts from family and friends who like me send them around 11.15 to beat the crash as the networks go down.
We got home about 2.00.a.m. and I am now finally back in my own home and all the too-ing and fro-ing between DDs houses has finished for another year.Just literally got through the door and my brother phoned from France ,he had phoned last night but I was out so it was lovely to hear from him.He sounds so much brighter now and he said he is healing up well after his stent op and angioplast just before Christmas.he is being sensible for a change and is taking a bit easier than he did although he said he had been out chain-sawing some logs this morning
I have had a lovely Christmas and New Year but I also love it when I get home and things get back to normal again IYSWIM.'normal food' and t.v. programmes and getting back into ordinary life once more.I havn't made many resolutions, but I would like to lose a bit of weight this year ,and I am hoping that I will be a bit more organised re Christmas presents ect.I have two 18ths,two 21sts, a 50th and an 80th birthday-wise this year so I must get my finances sorted out
I am going to try and shop from my cupboards this month and use only my loacl shops for odds and ends .Supermarkets are too keen to get your cash and I 5think we will all be tightening our belts this year (if I lose some weight it will be a great belt-tightener:) )

Happy New Year to everyone on here.:j
We went to bed around 1.30,watched Jools, and fireworks/Chinese lanterns from the bedroom window.Roast pork later,I still have frozen roasties I did for Christmas so can use them.
We've just been to see my DB,SIL and DN,who is now half way through her pregnancy. She is back living at home for now as her BF crashed her car and she couldnt get to work from where they live.
They both admired the top I had on,which was good as its one of the onesI made, and looked very surprised when I told them,so it must look ok
The offspring and other overnight guests have not surfaced, but I did hear them come in just before 7 this morning, very quiet though.
Right ,thats all for now, hope you all have a good day.x:heartsmil 'A woman is like a teabag: You never know her strength until you drop her in hot water'. (Eleanor Roosevelt)0 -

Happy New Year everyone first a little about myself I am a 62 year old male and I live alone and my income is pension credit. (Looking back on 2010) I achieved quite a lot especially with all the help I had from the forums, I have become a happy shopper when I spot a bargain I buy as many as I can afford providing it will keep or can be frozen, my stock has built up so much at the moment I only need to buy fresh fruit and vegetables and milk which enables me to buy more if I spot a bargain I can use.
Over this last year I have made all my bread in my trusty bread machine, saving money and having a free air freshener, during the summer I learned how to make Jam and it was great my children and grandchildren loved it, as they loved my pickle cabbage and pickles that they had for Christmas, and over the year I have been doing batch cooking which again has proved a money saver not bad for someone who couldn’t boil an egg a while ago.
On the last day of 2010 I finally got the hang of my desktop steam press, ironing I couldn’t do, so the steam press which I have had for a year seemed the best option but I wasn’t having to much success with that, but yesterday changed all that and I did 8 shirts and they were as I would have had them from the cleaners so that saved me £15. So all in all a very productive year, and after my Christmas spending I ended up with a surplus of £600 and no debt. So I am looking forward to 2011 and the challenges it will bring. So money savers have a wonderful year. VivLow Carb High Fat is the way forward I lost 80 lbs
Since first using Martins I have saved thousands0
