OctoberI am seriously PO'ed with American at the moment. We booked our multi trip for this month with them for several reasons, mainly because the BA website wouldn't show the itinerary as being available, there was a glitch on the website as I found out later:mad:
Anyway, we decided that as we had to go with AA we would try the Platinum Challenge again, although over $200 to do would be well worth it. The trip is LHR/LAS/MIA/LHR . I booked via AAdvantage because we wanted to clarify the conditions and make sure we booked the right ticket code. All booked, £1400 for the 2 of us and was told to leave it to within 3 months of travel to set up the challenge. Guess what, booking class is not accepted for the challenge, double angry!!
Next is that because we are going on the BA flight to LAS on code share, the BA and AA systems do not match so we can not pre book or pay for exit seats, we have to wait till 24 hour check in and see what is left.
Lastly, as I have asked this on here recently, we thought that because we were on a "through" ticket that our allowance of 1 free checked bag for the international legs would also be accepted on the internal leg. A call to AA yesterday confirmed otherwise, so another $75 to pay.
Just a reminder to all that doing code share just to gain a few quid discount isn't always the best option.
Rant over
EDIT: A further call today to AA to pay in advance for the checked bags reveals that we DO NOT have to pay for them. Left hand right hand springs to mind. I am printing the part of the site pertaining to this now, just in case. The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.0 -

thing I noticed the most too....do not look forward to this development at all. I wonder if there is any chance that the refit will involve reconfiguration of the seating to have pairs along each side? I don't know if that is even possible on this type of plane but we would see it as a big plus.

MarchDon't think that would be possible on a 744, you would need to put in 2 more aisles or lengthen the plane.
thanks...also photome.
I did say I didn't know if it was possible on the type of plane.
you people need to understand that my perception of these things is so lacking that I am not allowed to put frozen shopping away in the freezer at our house...I have to leave that to the expert in spacial awareness.Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?0 -
November / DecemberQuick question about seating. I regularly check our seating plan on the plane to see if anyone has sat beside us and I've just saw today that someone has sat at the window seat. There are other empty seats so I don't know why they choose to sit beside us! Anyway, I was kind of hoping that we would maybe get an empty seat in the middle of us if the flight isn't full. There are a few other rows of empty seats and I'm going to see if I can move us. Should I choose the window and aisle seat, leaving the middle clear, or should I choose the aisle and middle seat? I don't know which would put people off sitting beside us more!0

BTW the reason they have chosen to sit next to you is because they wanted a window seatThe common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. November / DecemberHaha, I know they wanted the window seat but why couldnt they choose one which was a whole empty row!? I thought that it allocated seats as soon as you booked them? I booked them through expedia and it automatically choose my seats for me, but maybe that's because I didn't book direct (this is with united)? We fly in 28 days so I'll do nothing yet and just keep watching it and see closer to the time. I wanted to put my feet up on the middle seat0

No way would I reserve 2 seats with an empty one in the middle, (not even at the last minute)the flight maybe full, its very difficult to tell on the online reservation page as Stoneman says they are not all available for booking.0 -
