me neither - and I'm almost positive that a seating FAQ for one airline we have flown with has said that if you do this, they will move you to be sat together...and I wouldn't take the risk of carefully picking out the best of what was available, only to get stuck in some awful seats because we tried it on.

Until the doors are closing, I never get my hopes up about potential empty seats - too many times being disappointed.

Last flight was great on the return leg...they moved a family that was sat in 4 of the middle seats of the row behind us (they moved to the bulkhead in the next cabin back, thankfully)...and as soon as I knew the doors were closing I shimmied over to the aisle seat in that row...which left hubby with our pair to himself...and me and the lady on the other end of the row with 5 seats between us...it was soooo nice having the extra room.

But so rarely happens...never expect it, no matter how empty the plane appears to be on the seating chart - especially a month out - waaaaay too much time to go.

Did not manage to go to Vegas this year but definatley going in 2012 but need to renew my esta application.
Can anyone tell me which is the REAL Esta site as some of them want up to $65 just for an application fee and I thought it was only about $14.

BTW I still have to post my trip report for sept 2010 , ( yes you read correct ) honest I will get round to it some day , when I post it you will understand why it is so late.

Haha, okay I'll just leave it until the flight and see what happens then. I was hoping to try and upgrade us to premium economy but it doesn't give me the option. The seats are all just grey when I go to the Lufthansa page (its Lufthansa, operated by United), then when I go to United's seating page there's just no seats coming up at all for me to choose anywhere on the plane. I've checked as if I'm going to book the flight through United and I can see that there are PE seats available. Is it because we aren't paying enough to upgrade maybe? I was thinking maybe I could ask at the airport?

United do not have PE. They do have what they call 'economy plus', which are seats towards the front of the economy cabin with a little extra leg room (service is the same). You cannot book these when you make the booking - hence why those seats are greyed out. You can however 'upgrade' to those seats once you have your reservation by going to 'my reservations'. Cost from Heathrow to US is around $100 one way, depending on what the route is. You can also upgrade any connecting flight - cost is lower than the international sector, but depends on length of flight.

Is PE and WT a peculiarly British thing as the American airlines dont seem to have it.....Ive flown Delta and USAir recently, and neither did (to my knowledge).
