I agree with knowing what type of room you have booked and therefore know if you are getting an upgrade in room type or upgrade in room view/high floor.

We did $20 st Mandalay and asked politely if there were any complimentary upgrades available, check in asked what I had in mind and was then able to ask for a room type as I had checked website beforehand. We went from a 550 standard to a 750 strip view.

Have tried $20 quite a few times and been lucky with upgraded rooms so I would say it was worth a go. Like some have said you still pay a premium for the view.

    Afternoon all,
This is way off like, but looking to go back to Vegas, specifically on the 25th May 2013 (7 nights, and has to be that week, 24th or 25th flight).....
Thats way over a year, but in terms of attempted planning, do any operators offer incentives for booking a package that long away ?

I don't usually book flights and Hotels until a few days before departure, but for my next trip I booked a flight with American a month in advance as it was a good price.
Now they have rescheduled the flight back to UK robbing me of my final Bellagio breakfast. :(

Hotels in Las Vegas oversell their lowest categories of rooms - so generally all you need to do to get a better category is to ask nicely. You can then tip if you get the upgrade, if you want. There really is no need to pay $20 up front, and some places (Wynn/Encore for a start) do not allow it.

Don't think you will be able to book that far in advance because airlines only allow purchasing seats from 330 days out.
The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.

apologies if it's already been mentioned:

    http://www.breakingtravelnews.com/news/article/virgin-atlantic-plans-refurb-for-gatwick-fleet/

Virgin Atlantic is giving its 747-400 aircraft operating out of Gatwick and Manchester a £50 million overhaul.

The refurbishment, which forms part its recently announced £100m product investment, is expected to begin in May and be completed by October 2012.

New seats will be installed in economy and Premium economy and a new IFE system will be implemented in all three cabins.

300 hours of content will be available via a touch screen handset that allows passengers to multi-task while in the air.

Passengers will also be use of their mobile phones on board to make phonecalls or send text messages or emails whilst in the air, for the first time.

By October, premium economy passengers flying to destinations including the Caribbean will have leather ergonomic seats with an increased pitch of 38-inche and lumbar support as well as an adjustable headrest with wings.

This will be the first major refurbishment of the 10-year-old 747s which operate Virgin’s holiday routes from Gatwick and Manchester.

3 days, 18 hrs, 30 mins until your next flight with us... :j
    Whoo hoooo!

Just booked 4-in-1 Canyon Helicopter trip for two days after the wedding! Expensive but I think it'll be worth it.

Got ACG & MRB as well as R.com stripburger, HHAGG, HarleyDavidson, HOB vouchers. Have probably over done it but we have 22 guests and I am sure they will get used.

8nts @ Signature, Wedding, Cocktails in Level107 @ Strat, PARTY bus, Dinner @ Roy's, Car Hire; Dodge Charger for Vegas, SUV for LV to SF & Mustang (fingers crossed) SF to LA. All booked.

Very excited now - Tuesday & Wednesday at work then Thursday to pack, go to hairdressers etc, then early cab on Friday to Gatwick.

Now where did I put those luggage scales??
    Married in Vegas - 25th October 2011!

Beleive it when I see it. They promised this a long time ago then shelved it at the last moment. Marketing ploy because they have been demoted to a 3 star airline. Easyjet have more comfortable seats in economy.
