Beleive it when I see it. They promised this a long time ago then shelved it at the last moment. Marketing ploy because they have been demoted to a 3 star airline. Easyjet have more comfortable seats in economy.

I was thinking along those lines to!

Does anyone have any recs for a grand canyon tour? We did a flyover last time which was fun but looking for something this time where we can walk around and see whats going on. Have seen pink jeep tours and grand canyon tour company who both do bus/jeep tours, ideally would like to go on the skywalk too!

also! anyone who has been along recently, do you know what type of offers are in the luxor coupon book given for resort fees? i gather it'll be things like 241 at buffet and the like but again, just wanting more of an insight.

    any help appreciated.

apologies if it's already been mentioned:

By October, premium economy passengers flying to destinations including the Caribbean will have leather ergonomic seats with an increased pitch of 38-inche and lumbar support as well as an adjustable headrest with wings.

This will be the first major refurbishment of the 10-year-old 747s which operate Virgin’s holiday routes from Gatwick and Manchester.

On the topic of crappy Virgin Economy seating - thanks for reminding us that we'll be uncomfortable for 10.5hrs :rotfl: .....what inflatable seat cushions have people used in the past?
We should probably get a couple.....ASAP

    http://www.breakingtravelnews.com/news/article/virgin-atlantic-plans-refurb-for-gatwick-fleet/

Virgin Atlantic is giving its 747-400 aircraft operating out of Gatwick and Manchester a £50 million overhaul.

The refurbishment, which forms part its recently announced £100m product investment, is expected to begin in May and be completed by October 2012.

New seats will be installed in economy and Premium economy and a new IFE system will be implemented in all three cabins.

300 hours of content will be available via a touch screen handset that allows passengers to multi-task while in the air.

Passengers will also be use of their mobile phones on board to make phonecalls or send text messages or emails whilst in the air, for the first time.

Ability to make calls fills me with dread! I can just imagine it now - 20 or 30 people at a time shouting into their phones "Yes Wayne/Darlene - I am over the Atlantic. Yes, really!!!"

:( thing I noticed the most too....do not look forward to this development at all. I wonder if there is any chance that the refit will involve reconfiguration of the seating to have pairs along each side? I don't know if that is even possible on this type of plane but we would see it as a big plus.

Maria - have a great trip and lovely wedding!
Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?

Dont think the pairs of seats will work unless they have a gangway down the middle otherwise there would be 6 seats together, imagine being stuck in the middle of those!!

The last time I used an in-flight phone it was about 20 years ago and then it was £5 per minute, Dwaynes top up would cost as much as the flight!

    <shudder>

Another reason not to fly Virgin.

It's bad enough on US domestic flights with the DYKWIMs shouting down their phones the second they've landed -"Yes we've landed" Haven't they ever heard of texting ? <grumpy old woman mode is ON>

    We use these
The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.
