Signed up for Cosmopolitan Identity on Monday. We did the wheel spin and won $10 freeplay (which disappeared in about 2 mins as even 1c slots had min. 40 play) and 1 Wicked Spoon buffet.
I asked about coming back another day to do $100 rebate but the Lady said it was 1 offer only...which is contrary to what people have previously mentioned here and on T.A.

That's interesting - maybe they have changed something as we were told that the day of sign up we could only do one, the $10 freeplay one - we weren't offered the chance to spin the wheel for more, but were specifically told we could come back another day to do the $100 promo (and each did).

Anyway, we decided that as we had to go with AA we would try the Platinum Challenge again.

I would be extremely annoyed too...we lucked into it when we did it - we had checked prices for qualifying flights and they were too much more than what we could book in reduced fare classes that we decided it wasn't worth it and booked the normal way...we were really suprised to see the fare classes on our booking were good enough.

I did just have this email though (we are gold at the moment so suspect that's why we got the gold benefits email) - not that it will help you this time unless one of you is still gold from a previous challenge?

AAdvantage Gold members will begin earning 25% elite-status
bonus miles for travel on British Airways

Also, as an AAdvantage Gold member, you are already entitled to use Business Class check-in, even when flying in Economy Class, for travel on British Airways. Starting November 16, you will receive the following additional oneworld® Ruby benefits when traveling on British Airways:

    • Priority stand-by and waitlisting
    • Complimentary access to seat selection at seven (7) days prior to departure
We will still avoid BA flights I think...I like to sort out seat selections waaaay earlier than 7 days.

Is PE and WT a peculiarly British thing as the American airlines dont seem to have it.....Ive flown Delta and USAir recently, and neither did (to my knowledge).
I don't know about the Far East airlines, but yes it does seem to be a U.K. (well in particular B.A. and Virgin) thing. AA you have Economy, Business, and First. Most of them run on that lines with a couple going straight from Economy to First with some legroom seats thrown in.
The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.

Got an email from B.A. yesterday, from November 16 we are to become Bronze card holders with those same benefits. New tier between Blue and Silver

United do not have PE. They do have what they call 'economy plus', which are seats towards the front of the economy cabin with a little extra leg room (service is the same). You cannot book these when you make the booking - hence why those seats are greyed out. You can however 'upgrade' to those seats once you have your reservation by going to 'my reservations'. Cost from Heathrow to US is around $100 one way, depending on what the route is. You can also upgrade any connecting flight - cost is lower than the international sector, but depends on length of flight.
Sometimes you can find that buying 1 years subscription to Economy Plus for 1 person is cheaper than buying single seats for the whole trip for 2 people. EP card holder gets to select legroom seats for them and 1 other person in the party.

Delta was straight from Economy to Business with no First on the TA route.

I was thinking that would be good, but we're flying back with Continental and I don't think we'd be flying with United again in the next year to take advantage of it.

I tried going on to the travel options section on the United website but it's greyed out when I go to my reservations and won't let me use it. That's why I'm thinking maybe it's something to do with maybe not paying enough for them to let me upgrade, but I don't know anything about that at all. I don't understand why it won't let me choose our seats though? I can only do this on the Lufthansa website. Whereas on the way back I can choose our seats on both Lufthansa and Continental.

Delta now have economy plus on most international routes, same seats but more legroom more recline, priority boarding and free alchohol, between £50 and £100 extra
