Casinos must give you a specific type of receipt for the withholding, that's your evidence.

I think that is the coveted W-2G.
Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?

just booked for February...hubby had been playing around on AA's site and determined we had enough miles for business/first returns and while I'm sure that some would argue that there's a better way to use miles, we jumped on that before something changed...so for about £400 all in (I had to pay to transfer some miles to my hubby's account) we think that's an awfully good deal...we checked and buying the flights without using miles would have cost us £7k!

And now we get to test out the getting to Vegas late thing as we won't arrive until almost 8pm as of the routings available for the amount of miles we had available it was the one most suited to us.

I feel I need to again thank duchy and stoneman for their help with the Platinum Challenge as were it not for that, and the extra miles I earned while platinum, we wouldn't have had enough miles to do it. :)
AA have probably the best loyalty program out. We regularly have enough for a free return to Vegas by doing 2 paid returns, and there seems to be lots of availability. Are you flying indirect on AA or nonstop on BA?
The joy with doing a redemption flight on AA is that you can cancel and re arrange at anytime, just like a full fare ticket without charge.
The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.

ferf you may be able to help me with this. Our upcoming flight is a multi trip LHR/LAS/MIA/LHR with AA, first part on a code share with BA. According to AA you are allowed one free checked bag for international flights, but internal you have to pay $25 per bag. As this is all on one ticket do we get allowed to do the LAS/MIA leg fee free for our bags?

How many typical AA miles do you need to redeem for a typical Vegas trip then? :)

We're going indirect...if memory serves the BA direct flights weren't an option for the mileage we were willing to use. And yeah, I was really surprised when she said we could cancel or change...we booked by phone as needed to make 2 reservations (as each only had enough for our own booking and we were terrified we would make one, and then the 2nd wouldn't be available).

nvh - I'm not sure - we've been platinum or gold with AA the last few years so we get extra checked baggage included without charge...it used to be that if you were on a transatlantic ticket, that allowance applied for the internal leg but pretty sure that I have read recently that is no longer the case.

When we first looked we could have got economy returns for 40k miles each, or business for 100k each...this seemed a bit of a ridiclous difference given the difference in flight prices if booked with ££ was about £3000 per ticket?

I'm still convinced there's something weird going on. :)

It is indeed. My W-2Gs when I get them go straight in the bin. Have never found much of a use for them!

You can get them on some dates for 20K. And as you get over 10K for a return then 2 returns gets you a redemption flight. As I remember the taxes were only $90 as well.
Really cheesed off this time as we were going to do the Platinum challenge again, and was assured that the N class booking we were making would be OK to do it. Not so as I found out later, but to do it on a qualifying code would have been $1,500 a ticket.. I will live without Admirals Club access for that:cool:

Cheers guys... And can you remind me how long miles are valid for? Sorry, I should oogle but its easier to ask on this phone! ;)

So if I earn 10000 today, how long do they last?

Myself and my better half are off to vegas 6 weeks today for our honeymoon :D

This thread looks like a gold mine! We are staying at the mandalay bay and have to try the $20 trick! Is it going to be worth making it well known that we are on our honeymoon at check - in?

    Thanks!

18 months, but there are easy ways of keeping them live
