For the monorail, you have to buy it before midnight today, but you can buy 2 for 1 tickets that you can use anytime in the next year

This a one-off or does it happen every now and again? Not going till 1st October

I think that offer was the first of its kind - but it may be that if they had a good response they will do it again...monorail discounts aren't that common, unfortunately...it used to be that with the LVA MRB you could get a 2-for-1 and use that for any type of ticket including 2 10-ride passes...we used to do that, but then they stopped it...at one point I'm sure that there was a 2-for-1 coupon in a free magazine too...or a flyer we picked up somewhere, but it's been a few years.

The sad thing is that we don't use the monorail much as it's normally not good value for money for a couple, we don't think...given the number of times we would use it in a day - $24 for the pair of us normal price we may as well just take a couple of taxis...especially when you factor in the walk to get to and from the stations themselves.

I assume that the monorail is still on shaky financial ground...I do think if they dropped prices they would probably be in a better position overall as more people would use it...but I am not a bean counter, so I'm probably just making stuff up.

A few years ago they had an offer that was supposed to be for conventioneers for a particular convention. The 10 ride ticket was $35 at the time and I got it for $17.50 and it was mailed out.

We have used the monorail to get from mid-strip to the MGM and last trip we used it to get from the MGM to the Convention Centre to go to Envy, but apart from that it isn't worth it for us.

There is a monorail discount on a 3 day or 7 day pass for 2012 CES attendees - buy before Dec 27

About the same cost per day as a hire car.

    Fair point!

We normally have a hire car too...but we normally don't take it out in the evenings and sometimes the monorail is an appealing option for us - but not at $10 for a one way journey for the pair of us - though we have done it. :) Sometimes walking is probably the same distance, but the monorail avoids walking on the Strip...which sometimes the crowds just start to annoy us.

We decided we're going to use one of our monorail days as an excuse to ride down to Sahara station and wander over to the Strat as we haven't been there is 3 years...I know we could just take the car, but the monorail will also help keep us away from the slots for a bit.

Hello everyone, I've been lurking on here for a while as I'm planning a trip to Vegas with my OH in november. This will be our first time in vegas ( squeals in excitement) I'm slowly working my way through the thread noting all the fab advice along the way.
My question is on credit cards, neither myself of OH have one is it really necessary to have one for booking in hotels etc? As we've previously had debts our credit rating will probably mean we can't get one so I'm starting to worry if there a requirement.
    Thanks.
Thanks for the reply, another question what's the rate like for taking money out of the cash machine from your normal debit card, pay day falls whilst I'm over there and I'm worried I'll get a worse rate than I would if I exchanged money over here, thanks.

It's not necessary as such - but most hotels will want a credit card swipe for $xx per night or a cash deposit of $yy for the trip - in addition to some form of payment on file at the time of arrival...so you could use a debit card to pay for the hotel (they would normally take a swipe of the card, block the necessary amount, then charge it in full at check-out)...but you'll want to be careful about the additional deposit/hold per night - because those funds would be blocked from your debit card for the duration of your stay and for sometime after. Some hotels offer an alternative - a one-off cash deposit up front...duchy I think has experience doing this. Some hotels won't require any hold/deposit amount above the cost of the hotel for your stay.

So it depends really - do you know where you want to stay?
Thanks, I'm looking for somewhere without a resort fee, been toying with planet Hollywood (i'm 29 OH is 31) I don't mind a bit of partying I don't want anything to full on, but I do want the full vegas experience I'd love to see the strip from my room, I've seen your comments on PH on this thread so I'm not sure, any advice much appreciated.
    Thanks.

    Thanks.

If you have the right room at PH it's great - we thought the Hollywood Hip room we had was awful - even if it hadn't had an elevator running behind it - and as for seeing the strip from our room, yes we could - if we leant over a chair and table (or moved them out of the way) and bent down and stuck our head out a bit...the Resort room we had was a completely different story.

Had we had that room to start with, pretty sure we would be 100% happy to go back to PH time and time again...as it stands, we won't risk it as we would not want to stay in a Hollywood Hip room again...and we aren't willing to pay to book a Resort Room when we can get other places for free.

  • Hi guys, a quick question for you knowledgable lot....

At the end of our weeks stay in Vegas we are picking up our hire car before heading off to death valley on our California road trip. We plan to set off early-ish on the morning we leave.

My question is would we be better collecting the car the afternoon before we leave Vegas or on the morning we depart? There would be no difference in rental cost for doing this and obviously if we collected the car the day before we wouldn't have to mess around on the morning we set off. However after hearing horror stories about the constant grid lock on the strip I was wondering if collecting the car the day before we leave might not be worth the hassle?

We are staying at the Cosmopolitan.

Thanks in advance for any help.
