there's been talk recently of going on standby, and I know this is something that a few people on here will be familiar with so i was just wondering... on our return from Vegas, and due to how the weekend falls for us etc, we're quite flexible as to whether we can take the flight that day, or the day after (... or indeed, the day after that!)
With that in mind, is going on standby something I could just suggest to AA when checking my bags? or do you need to flag yourself up before that (when you're checking in... which we'd normally do online)?
...or is it not worth mentioning at all?0 -

Getting voluntarily "bumped" on any airline is usually good news, especially if it's an international flight. Usually has to be direct-with no connections-makes it more complicated and expensive for them)
If you have the spare time (before or after the hols)
Not sure if it applies if you check in online but at the check in desk (or possibly bag drop) ask if they are looking for volunteers to be bumped.
Or ask if you can move seats and if no, then ask if the plane is full-then ask if they are looking for volunteers.
If they are then ask what the compensation is and what priority you'd be for the next flight.
AA usually overbook and the compensation is usually VOUCHERS (not cash) to be used on any AA flight-can be up to $700 each and it can last for two years
If it's overnight then they foot the hotel bill for dinner + Bkfst
Ask if they can put you in business for the next flight
I've done this three times with AA and got my flight cost back each time (In vouchers).
I once got "stuck" in Singapore for three days and Qantas paid £300 in cash (each) + the hotel bills!
Go for it!0 -
MarchHaving a devil of a time getting my hands on a 16Gb iPad2, phoning all 3 Apple locations every day, also Bestbuy and Frys, no luck at all. Good saving if I can get one, about £330 with rate conversion compared to £399 in the U.K.
Hmm, I was in the Apple store in the town centre mall a couple of weeks ago, the closest I've ever came to smacking one of those 16 year old nerds they have serving. When asked 'can I help' I asked for an Ipad 2 64G wifi, I first got the eye roll and a turn to his colleague saying 'he wants an Ipad' after a little chuckle he turned back, I think he got that I wasn't amused, I'm 6'4" and 17 stone, I left, went across to Fry's, there they had taken the Ipad display down, I did check the fashion show mall. Absolutely no chance without preorder, most had the 3g version (contract), not much good for the UK.....it's a conspiracy I say.
I would be less wound up but it was for a friend:mad:0 -

If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.0 -
From a developers poihnt of view I'll have to disagree. Comparing IOS, win7 mobile and honeycomb Ive found the latter to perform best outta the 3.
As soon as my contract is up in june my iphones getting launched outta the window and Im going android.
anyway, get back on topic - 20 days til vegas !!!0 -
MayI've taken a couple of bumps-and turned down several more.
In the UK they tend to try and get them organized at check in (before immigration) Best I saw was a couple of years ago NW offering $1000 on good Friday to Detroit. They would have been quite happy to give it to us even though we were flying on to Vegas. My favourite was with AA we were on the 9pm from JFK to LHR -bags were checked in and at the gate (always sit near the podium for this reason) they asked for three volunteers. We knew the flight was pretty full from looking at the seat map at check in so whilst others were still thinking it over I was at the desk. One guy beat me to it and was listing his demands (he wanted an upgrade AND an upgrade back as well as the $500) I caught the GA's eye and said "we are three" and she turned him down and gave it to us-sometimes you can blow it by been too greedy. We flew on the later flight at 11pm -I thought 3 x $500 for a two hour wait was a great deal.I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole

JuneSure hope my Virgin flight is full then on my way back!
I'm flying back from Orlando, theres 2 flights that day, and i am on the 2nd one........ So will be interesting to see what would happen if they asked for Volunteers
I booked us seats 61 (the twin seats at the back of the plane) on our vegas flight and coming back from the orlando one...
On the note of flights, i read that for Virgin passengers, you can pay $10 and drop your bags at MGM early in the day.......
Does anyone know if you can do the same for Delta (i fly to orlando with delta), flight aint until 22:40! Were off for a drive somewhere all day, so dont want the cases in the Mustang0
