Anyway, im going to vegas may 16th and just cannot get excited, im absolutley petrified of flying and was just wondering if anyone had any advice as to which medication i should ask for from the doctor? Also ive read the flights to vegas are pretty bad experiences? im flying direct with virgin from gatwick.....Im so scared that ive begun to convince myself that my "negative thoughts" could bring the plane down
Thanks in advance

Aaawwww poor you, I can really sympathise because I'm scared of flying too. I'll admit to getting so worked up the night before I end up crying. It's not so much the actual flight, it's the hanging about waiting to board than also puts really bad thoughts in my head.
All I can say is that I try and prepare myself mentally by thinking that once the plane is up in the air, that's it, nothing you can do about so I stop and take a few deep breaths before boarding and just get as comfy as possible.
I try not to take anything other than anti sickness pills because I don't want to be totally zonked out. i also take a few books or crosswords puzzle books with me and I'll try and focus on them whilst up in the air, wearing headphones listening to the music, watching a film helps to drown that awful noise out. Even playing Mario really helps whittle the time down. Sucking on Barley Sugar sweets is quite calming for me too. TBH it takes me nearly to the end of the flight to pluck up courage to go to the lav. Anything that helps me forget I'm flying helps a lot.
I've only flown VA from Gatwick once before and although it ended up being a 14 hour flight  it was ok, no probs. This time we are doing Heathrow/New york for a few days then going on those tin pot commercial airplanes to San Fran that, believe me, flying across America in one of those things is far worse than any Atlantic flight I've been on (except one, but I won't explain it because I don't want to scare you)
Other than that I can't really give you more advice. What i am trying to say is that there are lots of us in the same "boat" (or plane lol). Everybody deals with it differently.BEST EVER WINS WON IN ORDER (so far) = Sony Camcorder, 32" lcd telly, micro ipod hifi, Ipod Nano, Playstation 3, Andrex Jackpup, Holiday to USA, nintendo wii, Liverpool vs Everton tickets, £250 Reward Your thirst, £500 Pepsi, p&o rotterdam trip, perfume hamper, Dr Who stamp set, steam cleaner.
comping = nowt more thrillin' than winnin':T :j0 -

was looking at the VIP tickets as it goes, as would love a seat close to the stage. looking at the tickets which Ticketmaster has as 'best available', they have specific/guaranteed tickets for the tables of 4 in front of the stage. would these be good ones to get?
despite this being the MSE site, I think I'd rather spend a few extra $$$ to know which seats I'm getting
and random question... what's the dresscode (if any)?
Those tables sound good as she does walk along the front of the stage doing the old slappy pass...:rotfl:Depends on cost and whether you think it's worth the added money. The backing group are excellent too.
Not really any dress code. Some blokes in t-shirts/shorts, some in shirts/trousers. Women mainly in dresses, with a few more casual. I suppose it depends what you do before/after.
Also, there are waitresses who come around to get your drinks, and there is a bar in the 'theatre' which a queue does form at. But nothing stopping you taking your own drinks in or not having a drink at all. Very laid back0 -

sounds perfect!
laid back is my favourite kind of concertWill be nice to make an effort to get dressed up a little, but still stay cool comfortable
random question #2 (!) did you happen to recall anyone taking photos... I mean more professional shots from the front of the stage during the start of the set? I take photos at concerts over here on occasion, so was going to try and see if I can get myself a photopass to take some memorable snaps0 -

i know a few people who cannot stand flying and it takes them days to get over it , if they can get on the plane in the first place . one has the classic fear of flying , while another can get on a plane on his own , but cannot fly with his wife and kids .
i can quote all the statistics on how if you flew everyday , you would on average have to fly everyday for 19,000 years before you would possibly die from flying .
but your not really scared of flying , your scared of dying . yet we will all die one day , so why waste all our Billions of moments in life worrying about one single moment the will without a doubt one day arrive . nobody knows how many Moments we are destined to have and , all any of us have is the here and now , and you have a great holiday in great place , in a great country to enjoy .
If one adopts the view " if it's your day to die , it your day to die " and nothing we can do can change that . you have to accept that "whatever will be , will be " . , and get on with living and enjoying our lives .
The flight to Vegas is no worse than many i have took . you get the a bit of turbulence In/ Out of McCarren , but i have never had anything OTT .
A single Valium or similar Benzodiazepine is what you need to overcome the physical anxiety . i doubt the doctor will give you more than 2 as they are addictive with sustained use . they do work , but take it a about an hour before take off . don't mix with alcohol !!! you might not be fit to fly .
After that a good distraction is what is needed to keep your mind occupied . may i suggest a Ipod , with a audio novel ( have you read something like the " The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo " , that will keep you attention ) or a hand held Game console . try counting backwards during take off and landing to divert yourself .
Enjoy your trip to Vegas :beer: and you know you are going to post a trip report here when you get home . i'll bet my house on itBetter in my pocket than theirs :rotfl:0
