I don't believe it's been mentioned on here, but i've just read ( http://www.lasvegasweekly.com/news/2011/feb/02/nickel-dimed/ ) that the MGM Grand are now charging $20 to guarantee a non-smoking room, (on top of a $20 resort fee)

It's getting crazy there now IMO.
Dont you call reception, say your room smells, and ask to be moved to another?

you could do, and you'd be in luck if they have any available (hell, somewhere as big as MGM should have but if theres a big fight on or a concert then i wouldn't count on it!)

the point i was really trying to make, is MGM keep trying to sneak in extra charges, charges that if they were to become the norm would start to put me off going to Vegas - it's not quite as bad as easyjet admittedly, however how long before you have to pay a charge to use the lifts, or to have bedding (ok, i'm being over the top but you get what i'm saying! :D) :)

    Tenth Anniversary
I've only been once before in May 2010, and stayed at the MGM Grand. Part of our room promotion was that me and my friend each got $25 of free pool credit to use each day, so we just ate our lunch and dinner there every day as we were on a very tight budget.

But now when I go in June, we don't have any free meals, so will obviously be eating at a wider variety of places...but still on a tight budget. What can be recommended? What's this Stripburger thing I've heard about?

Stripburger is just that, a burger bar, but the burgers aren't cheap at round $9-10 plus drinks. The reason they are mentioned on here is that you can get a restaurant.com certificate which gives gives you $25 off $35 spend.

Assuming you are staying at the MGM again, you can get breakfast at La Salsa Cantina for $3.95 and lunch at Panda Express which is a Chinese carry out for about $8 and for dinner Denny's might be suitable. All of these are not far from the MGM.

Now you've gone and done it, she doesn't need confusing anymore:rotfl:
The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.

Yup I understand and I agree with you.....you dont expect Ryanair service and nickel-and-diming in a Vegas hotel.

Another charge I saw recently......$20 a night to guarantee two queens in your room (ooo-errr misus)........no seriously, I think thats at the Platinum.

You can see even in a small group here that people are specifically booking Caesars properties nowadays to avoid the $20 resort tax prevalant everywhere.

The only point I would make is that if Im getting value from the resort tax, then fine....eg Mrs Frog does daily gym which would normally be charged, and I like my wifi.

.......And have booked a romantic meal at the Bellagio "Prime Steakhouse" for the last night for Mrs Fluff and I ......... Mrs Fluff and I have lost over 6 stone each and we know that buffets are our enemy!

Your trip sounds fantastic. Can't wait to hear your thoughts afterwards. Prime is wonderful. The 2 (or 4) of you will have a great evening. Ask to have desserts on the patio (hubby arranged this for us in advance, on a previous trip) and it's great to relax outdoors and watch the fountains.
HUGE congrats on the weight loss too. Absolutely amazing! :)

am happy to tip like that, as am guessing if were playing games in the casino for 2 hours, and bought drinks, it would cost alot more than that ? (am assuming you pay at the bar?)....
So if i tipped a waitress $3 each time for 2 drinks, she would pop by every 15 mins hopefully ? :):):)

Yes, and the casino will just love you knocking back a drink (alcohol) every 15 mins. I'd be passed out under the table....... :rotfl:

Thanks - Just stick with ones that don't have the resort fees. I know a lot of guys on Trip Advisor are booking in the Caesars (Harrahs) chain now, as they refuse to pay the resort fees. Cosmo also has no resort fee.... :)

Oh, I also booked some tickets last night for Sinatra on the travelzoo offer. Got 3rd row seats too, so that's the show sorted for anniversary night :D Think we're going to eat at La Cave after the show, anyone been?

2 hours is tight but do-able
If they do miss the connexion AA have lots of later flights to vegas as it's a hub so it won't be an issue. I've done a transfer with AA at Chicago in less than an hour before now.

No seats are comfy in economy in my mind but AA are better than most and the food is fine. Meal on take off then snack pizza before arrival in Chicago. Food is not free on domestic flight (like all US internal airlines) but personally I'd grab take out from the wide choice of eating places there to eat on board.
With AA you can reserve seats in advance and they have lots of 2s so no needing to sit next to a stranger.
IFE is good mix of films and TV shows and lots of music.

    I'd book with them again
