hi all, girlfriend and myself are booking our flights to vegas tomorrow when she finds out what days she can get off work.
we're on abit of a budget, so we're going next month, have found direct flights for £517 w/ virgin. i know their flights aren't great but she doesn't fancy going in-direct and reviews didn't rate delta/klm that good either.
as its our first time, we want to do the strip. best deal i've found so far is the tropicana, the new rooms like nice enough and TA reviews have been good. won't know for sure anyway till the dates get confirmed.

was looking for vouchers for stripburger but they've all gone :(
what other deals should i be looking out for? i need more good cheap places to eat. we'll be doing a nice buffet and a nice meal maybe up the effiel tour but for the most part we can't go silly on meals as we want to visit the grand canyon and do the red rock on scooters.

please also recommend me some shows and how to get the best ticket prices for them.
can't say how invaluable this site has been in helping me - much better than trip advisor. i've got the bug and i haven't even booked yet!!

am happy to tip like that, as am guessing if were playing games in the casino for 2 hours, and bought drinks, it would cost alot more than that ? (am assuming you pay at the bar?)....
So if i tipped a waitress $3 each time for 2 drinks, she would pop by every 15 mins hopefully ? :):):)

Entirely up to you what you tip, but $2 for 2 drinks (if you are both gambling) is fine.

No need to buy drinks in a casino if you are gambling

Strange how a lot of first timers are choosing the Trop, I know it is marketing their upgraded rooms so I guess thats why, but I dont think any of the regulars on here have ever stayed there.

Read page 1 for coupon books etc which will get you you 2 for 1 buffets, also lots of other info on page 1 about shows etc

Never done the scooter tour but have been to red rock and the Grand Canyon and they dont compare, not even remotely

If you can afford one do the GC

thankyou all. believe it or not have read page one but will study harder :D

photome - trop is purely as its cheaper than all the others and on the strip but doesn't seem a complete dump. and the TA responses are positives. like i said we are on a budget, especially my gf, so i will be paying for the hotel myself! maybe that has something to do with it. ;)

she even has the cheek to say she wants to do ceasers for a night or two!!

jammerr - hotels in Vegas by comparison with the UK are cheap. eg a crummy Travelodge on the coast with a single bed, 14in telly, enough room to swing a cat, minging shower curtain, wonky floor cost me £60 a night.

Yes Trop will be cheaper than most, at say £30 a night, but IMHO spend an extra £100 over the week for a nicer hotel......she will appreciate it :)

Sorry mate, didn't realise you were talking about 2 drinks. $2-$3 is fine then. If you are playing the machines I always start out by giving the waitress $5 for the first 2 drinks. That always gets their attention then a dollar a drink after that. And unlike most I was once advised by a waitress while chatting that if you tip BEFORE you get the drinks they always come to you first, works for me.
The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.

The problem with Peggy Sues is that it is only about 1.5 hours into the journey from L.A. so you really need to miss breakfast and go there hungry.
