Just a quickie.
I am going to Las Vegas in April - what shall I do about taking money?
Do most of you change your dollars before you go?
Should I just take a few dollars then use my debit card over there to get cash out?
Have you read the travelmoneymaximiser at the top of homepage.
Best way is a small amount of cash and the rest on the best value, credit/debit card IMO.
I used to withdraw at ATM on my nationwide debit, but that isnt so good anymore so have got a Halifax clarity credit card which can be used for spending and withdrawing cash, still have PO CC as well which is also great for spending on but not withdrawals
The best cards are all explained on the maximiser0 -
MarchAs a novice could anybody tell me if the Total Reward Scheme any good ??
Staying in Paris Hotel in March for 7 days & will probably only bet maximum of $60 /70 per day ( at most ) Is it worth the hassle?
Wow $60 per day. Let us all know that you have the constitution to actually have done it? Obviously it's something other than gambling that's attracting you. A lot of the pools won't be open as it will still be in the chilly mid 70's.
Always join the players card schemes, especially in the casino you're staying at. As has been said you will get better offers and deals than if you don't. My next trip in March I'm staying 6 nights in 3 different Harrahs hotels across the state, $62 inc tax for the 6 nights, just don't ask how much it has cost me to earn these comps.
I will be trying something for when I go back in either July or Nov, I booked 2 nights with TR on the most expensive of the 3, my thinking was that the comp was a one time deal. That threw up the $62 for a Fri/ Sat night. I then booked the second hotel (which would be the first I would stay in) and that threw up 3 nights comped but I only needed 2. I then booked the third hotel expecting not to be comped but it did again give me the 2 nights I wanted comped.
Either I was very fortunate in having a stack of comps or the system has some way that it sets you at a level and keeps giving it to you. The 3rd hotel was booked on a different day to the others. I don't know but nice if it works. July I'll be only in Vegas and it would be nice if for the sake of changing hotels every 2/3 days that it is a magic bonus.
All my confirmations etc came through with no problem and that was nearly a month ago now, so I don't think it's a loophole or glitch in the system. No doubt if there is bad news it'll be at check-in, who knows?0 -
November / DecemberJust ordered my MRB for our next trip. $43 to have it delivered, ($6 more) but I like to have it with me when I arrive.
This trip seems to be taking forever to come around.0 -

Is that flight and Accom together ?
I saw a deal last week with Ebookers, flying from LON to Detroit, then onto Vegas (4th June), 1 week at the Tropicana, for £648 (excluding R fee)....
Told my mum, as she wants to come see me get married.... talks her friend into it, so today when i want to book, same setup is £748
Trying to find any flight on the 3rd or 4th or 5th + weeks stay for 2 at the Trop for the price i said to her (say £660 tops) is not proving easy at the mo
Yeah that was for flights and accommodation with lastminute.com, have a look there, their Flight+Hotel packages are pretty good.0 -
SeptemberHi all - been trying to catchup on this entire thread since the 2010 thread! he he
My fiance and I will be going to Vegas for our honeymoon in September! woo!
We booked through Thomas Cook (bad MSE'ing) Doh, but we are flying with Virgin. How would we go about choosing seats if thats possible?
Also, we would like to try the $20 trick, but as we are staying at Caesers for the full 7 days I am thinking it is going to need to be more like $50?
What is the "ranking" order for the towers please? We obviously would like the best we can get if we are offered an upgrade, but would need to know which tower to go for if offered a better one?
We are currently booked for Forum Tower (deluxe?)
TIA for any help

Upgrades from Forum Tower Deluxe would be Palace Tower and Augustus Tower.
We've stayed in both and the Augustus Tower is far and away more convenient...the tower is newer, but the Palace Tower room we had was very nice - not much different to the Augustus Tower in terms of the room, but it was a lot farther walk to get anywhere.
If you go onto Caesars website you can see the rooms in order (based on price) Also look at https://www.frontdesktip.com to see what people have had in terms of upgrades.
TBH, if it were us, given that the Forum Tower Deluxe rooms are recently refurbished, we might be inclined to stick with that unless we could get the Augustus Tower...but we found ourselves in the Forum casino a lot...and it's the closest to self-parking. The Palace Tower rooms are much bigger I think.Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?0 -
Spike ring Thomas Cook and ask them for your PNR number you can then go online and pre book your seats free of charge on Virgin Atlantic website

MayCan anyone tell me if you can pre book tickets and a time for gondola rides at the venetian? We didn't get round to it last trip, but don't fancy queing for ages.
Also we are looking at doing a wild west sunset horseback tour with dinner, if anyone has done this could they let me know if its any good and which company you used. Thanks0 -

I think that's probably true for a lot of people, but if someone's going to gamble quite a bit, having more cash to start makes sense. We normally stay 8-9 nights and bring 1/2 in cash so we have a stash to start with...the best trips are those that we never make a trip to the cashpoint.
I'm also paranoid, as you all well know, so something going wrong in Vegas that would mean we would be short of cash would be awful to us...so we always try to stay a bit ahead of withrdrawals where we can.Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?0
