Does anybody have experience of flying direct from manchester with Thomascook or with US Airways via Philadelphia?

These are my two cheapest options but if need be I will spend more for better in flight entertainment or more legroom as im a nervous flyer and want the flight to pass as smoothly as possible. If i go with US airways will the internal flight have in flight entertainment or will it be like an internal UK flight?

Its working out about £1400 for two for these flights but would spend an extra few hundred if required. BA prices have shot up by about £500 in the past 2 weeks from heathrow so that rules them out and i have ruled out the Virgin gatwick flight over all the bad stories iv read!

yeah flew with them in 2007 . no problems. IFE is a bit 80's ( i.e one huge screen at the front) , but thats a minor quibble IMO .
Better in my pocket than theirs :rotfl:

It's Delta who have SLC as a hub

Thank you - something about saying it was US Airways didn't sound quite right to me and I was too lazy to go check!

Pretty much sussed the basic strategy for VP so really gonna give that a go this year. Basic strategy for Blackjack is coming along nicely too, Plus this time I am finally gonna get to play some poker having never got round to it on the previous 2 trips.
Get a copy of win-poker for VP to play on your phone/PC, it costs about $10 but is well worth it. I love double bonus poker better then JOB, more money for quads but less for a 2 pairs. As for BS for B/J make sure you put in 6 deck Vegas as the parameters. Also make a concerted effort to keep an eye on the more unusual (harder) things to do, like double a soft 13 against a dealers 6, and hit a soft 18 against a dealers 9,10, A. You will get some funny looks but also get kudos from the real players. I always play third base because I like ploppies to have a go at me when I do this, then I tell them to ask the dealer if I was right. Google counting cards, I know it makes no difference in a 6 deck game but fun to learn anyway. Comes in handy if you ever find yourself playing single deck B/J but then you wouldn't in Vegas anyway as they tend to pay only even money for a B/J
The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.

We've flown with US Airways a number of times. We now only have 2 one stop options from Glasgow - so it's that or Continental via Newark which tends to be pricey. I guess they can sell Glasgow to New York seats quite easily so it might be pushing the price up. Newark isn't the easiest to pass through either. We're quite used to Philadelphia airport now.

IFE is variable dependant on which plane they use. It's hit and miss. They do have some planes with individual screens, but it just depends what plane you get really. They are ok for legroom.

We used to usually fly AA before they stopped flying from Glasgow. Shame they've gone, I think their legroom was slightly better, although it is fine on US. Definitely good compared to Thomas Cook charter planes etc!

I thought TC were supposed to be quite good from reports. They took out the premium cabin to give more legroom. I think there bag allowance is quite poor though. If you are connecting in the states the further you can go on the international leg the better. AA fly to Chicago then a 3 hour flight to lAS from MAN, we did that one and it was fine. If it were me and I could afford to spend a little more then that is the option I would go for.

  • I've finally booked. Was about 655 pounds for return (indirect) flights from London - Vegas, and 7 nights at the Tropicana from June 9th - June 16th. Then 36 quid cashback from Quidco (which has already validated!). So 619 altogether, not bad?
