How do I search this thread only for `Norfolk`?
Please can we have the answer in the somewhere prominent?Order of events: Banks lose our money -> get bailed out -> were inflating GBP to cover it -> now taxing us -> next will grab your funds direct -> things get really desperate to balance the books. What should have happened?: banks go bust and we lost our money much quicker0 -

You go to the top where it says search this thread and type in Norfolk"The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, but wiser people so full of doubts."

I took my car in for an MOT at my usual garage. They failed my car and said it would cost almost £1000 to pass it next time round. I took it to the council test centre instead and they passed it without any work needing to be done. Thanks Martin.0

Hi,
can anyone recommend a cheap reputable MOT place in the Liverpool area?
Thanks0 -
I generally take my car for a pre MOT about a week before it is due. I use a garage that does not do MOT's so they have nothing to gain. It costs me £20 and any minor faults, (bulbs etc) are repaired in the cost.
My car has never failed and I don't get ripped off!0 -
I've just booked at Milton Keynes at the address given in the original article. They are happy to test private individuals' cars, and appear to be taking bookings a week or two ahead. Their fee is £40.
In response to Phill Yer Boots' post above, I'm not sure how his method avoids dubious work being identified. Sounds like he has found a trustworthy garage, which is the ideal situation to be in. Bear in mind though that even the best garages are run by humans, and that when work becomes short (as it can) they need to keep their revenue rolling in somehow.

Hi,
Martin, interesting piece on cheaper MOT tests.
However, I'm a bit concerned by the following part of your email;
'as they don't do repairs so there's less of an incentive to fail you'
The MOT test is a stringent test of the major and critical components of a car which deem it roadworthy or not. I hope you aren't suggesting that cars with defects will be passed because its not a proper garage.
We are afterall driving around quite quickly in one and a half ton metal boxes with a wheel at each corner. Spending £50 to find out it is safe and will stop when you press the brake is money well spent. Cutting corners here could mean somebody dies be it in or outside your vehicle.
Mark.

Feb 1 Car MOT at dealer £44.15 paid - failed gonna cost £798.00 !!!!!!!!!! to fix it!
Feb 2 Car MOT at local council test centre £30.00 paid (which i found about through MSE)
``````Car Passed MOT!!!!!!``````
Feb 2 Rang Trading Standards and Ministry of Transport and reported dealer.
Feb 14 Car retest MOT by Ministry of Transport AT dealer, infront of 1st tester. Car passed MOT!
Feb 21 Letter to dealer requesting initial test fee reinbursement suggesting their non compliance with Road Traffic Act Standards.
Not long after...cheque for £44.15 received.
All in all I paid £30.00 to the council testing station and that was it!
