Anyone in the Preston/Kirkham/Blackpool area, I have had mine tested at Naze Lane Garage, Naze Lane Industrial Estate, Freckleton, Preston, PR4 1UN
Tel: 01772 631199. for the last 2 years, no probs, no trying to push non existent faults and only £30. No retest fee if faulty and you want to take away and return within 10 days.

I have no connection with this garage except to take my car for it's last 2 MOT's, the last one being 4th May

Perhaps the best way to save on an MOT is to make sure it passes by checking things yourself and getting the work done *before* getting the MOT done. It will save on any re-test fees if taking your car elsewhere for repairs.
  • Just wanted to say that I took the advice, and it paid off.

Took my car to Oldham Council Mot Testing Centre, and they passed it.

Even better, it only cost me £32! :T

Usually doing exactly that ends up with you spending money you didn't need to on fixing things that aren't tested.

Maybe, but I certainly see no reason why anyone should be taking a car in for an MOT test with low oil or coolant level (unless some defect causes this), defective wiper blades, dead bulbs or tyres with splits or worn to the legal limit. Can't believe how many cars I have seen recently with only the supplemental middle brake lights working with neither left nor right stop bulbs working.

A Haynes manual should describe what bits are tested as part of the MOT. I think there are also leaflets produced which give some ideas. Your car's safety and road worthiness is your own responsibility, and should probably not really be left once a year to an MOT tester to put things right.
