  • have also had de clutter lately. got rid of loads of biggish stuff on ebay, gave old in line skate boots in 3 diff sizes to charity shop and loads more in bin- along with old tv and boxes to tip .So why is it i dont seem to have more room????

I know how you feel - I have de-cluttered so much but I don't actually have any more space, but my house does look less crowded. I still don't like anyone coming around but if someone did turn up out the blue I wouldn't feel as ashamed as I would have in the past. I'm getting fairly close to my goal though :)

    hi everyone!

not much decluttered here today as it's a busy week, but managed one little job while I was cooking. all my spices/herbs are in a drawer so I can only see the jars from above (and have to pick each jar up to find what I need) Decided to stick little labels on the top of each jar so I can see at a glance what I have. Found out we have 3 jars of chilli powder as well as some things I don't remember buying and therefore never use (something called "season-all" for example?) so it's another mini challenge to use those things up.

found a bookcase that will fit the alcove in living room perfectly. Took DH to go and see it but shop was closed today, grr! When I get the bookcase we will pull down 2 shelves we currently have in living room and sort out all those things - mainly photo albums but also a basket of things cleared from my Grandma's flat after she died. Been putting off doing that for long time now.

well done for everyone for all your efforts - large or small - we're all going in the same direction, so keep posting!

I use season all on roast chicken, in salad dressings and in chicken or tuna mayo.. i have a dymo label printer. LOVE IT!

    i started the declutter today,

another 8 things sold on ebay including an exercise bike and our old fridge freezer, netted over £150 so not bad going!
that will go towards our debts :)

filled a bin bag with junk thats no good for CS or ebay got a box of bubble wrap being collected by a freecycler tomorrow morning... (anyone else noticed you never get replies to wanted ads anymore?)

more on the agenda tomorrow, last day of my hols before back to work!

  • Well our living room is completely empty. (apart from the tools the carpet man left behind on the mantlepiece :rotfl:). Now we have a layer of latex drying and the vinyl will go down on Wednesday. There are lots of black bags outside with the remains of the old flooring in. I've put a message on freecycle to see if anyone wants any of the old carpet. MIght have to ask a kind friend to take me to the tip or it could take ages to get rid of the black bags - we're only allowed to put 3 out at a time now and they only come every 2 weeks.

So taking it relatively easy at the moment but did slightly declutter part of one of the kitchen surfaces, put some 'bits' in the bin and a couple of cloths into the wash.

thanks for the tip for using the season-all, prettypaula. I think I'll be trying it out on everything!

3 things put in bag for CS - will drop off later
    weaving through the chaos...
  • Not been here for a while :o. But I've been plodding along -

    * Another 'what was I thinking' jumper into the CS bag
    * Couple of mugs that were surplus to requirements :D - CS bag

And - I shredded some old credit card statements, so I now only have three years' worth.

    1. old OU course (containing video and cassette tape :rotfl: )

I have one of those in the loft :o I am keeping all my OU stuff together until I am awarded my degree - only one more course to go now :j
I keep credit card, utility and bank statements for about 3 years (longer if I have an electonic, or scanned, copy).

I keep insurance documents back for about 7 years.

Anything associated with tax returns I keep 7 years. Each year's papers in an envelope, and I throw away the oldest when I prepare the new year's return :)

I do it like this, now.
I have loads of clothes I never wear but for some reason find it hard to part with them. Any suggestions for how to start clearing my wardrobe?

I'm no good at going through my wardrobe and decluttering it all in one go, so I am using a new system. Each time I go to get dressed, and I pull out something and think 'oh, no, I don't want to wear that because xxxxx' then I put that item in the charity shop bag. It's working for me.

dizzybuff - ((hugs)) I hope you are feeling a bit more positive.

:) Reluctantly realised that today is last wearing of a particular fave work blouse; I shall wash it, cannibalise it for buttons and put it in the rag bag. Have just acquired its replacement for £3 from a CS. Bag of stuff going to the onstreet recycle bank and a carrier bag of kids' clothes to another CS. On my way.......;)

Hello again everyone, I'm being a bit shocking popping in and out but I'm trying my best :o

Out so far today, two large boxes of cardboard recycling and a bag of stinky nappies. Trouble is that when I took out the cardboard I didn't realise all our >5" of snow had drifted around the recycling bin and went down in my house flip flops. I flipped and I flopped and I fell on my bum. Fortunately no one saw me, less fortunately about nine people passed me as I was coming back in with snow all up one side of my black trousers.

Pending out, 82 books currently up for sale plus a pile of stuff that I've photographed for ebay and will put up at some point. We're also busily clearing out the freezer because Lidl has British Week starting on Thursday and we need room for steak pies and scampi :D

Sold a book through work so one fiction book out and £1 in - my mum gave me lots and said she didn't want them back, I've read them and don't want to keep them, I'm more of a library girl with fiction at least - so put on small ads at work for £1 each and if they don't sell I will charity shop but balancing the decluttering, giving and making some money back.

1 bid on the 5 things on ebay already and more watchers so fingers crossed and want to try and put on a few more things tonight I've decided.

In: only post and I went through most of it with a recycling box at my feet!
