sunshineyday wrote: »evening all,
I had a go at mineallmines 50 things over the weekend challenge and just about made it:
3 bags of general rubbish
2 binliners of coat hangers (I swear they breed through the night in my house!)
27 cds for charity shop
10 cds given to friend
1 toiletry
2 books to cs
1 ornamental bunch of twigs
1 handbag to cs
1 bag paper waste to recycling
and to round that up to 50 - decluttered 1 chocolate orange and 1 bottle of merlot:rotfl:
well done mineallmine on exceeding the 50 things! and well done everyone else on all their hard work:T:T:T:T
Well done you too! Wow loads of stuff sorted. Ashamed to admit much of mine was recycling or rubbish - but it's now gone for good!!!''Well, the bloke came and collected the varnish from the bin-cupboard as per arrangement whilst I was out in Sunday evening, so that's 2 good tins re-homed. I'm up-to-date with the recycling but there'll be a change next week as the Shoebox and its neighbours go onto alternate weekly collections. As per usual, we've come up to bin day and my non-recyclables add up to one small bagful so won't bother putting them out (seems a waste of a black sack). The rotables are in the Dalek up on the allotment so there's nothing in there to get whiffy. Used the good old Flylady technique of 15 minutes by the timer to face a Hotspot; a pile of paper-y junk interleaved with misc. Found some things which I hadn't seen for a while, plus the table-top lol. Might even have to eat off it instead of a tray on my lapDeclutter 300 things in December challenge, 9/300. Our local tip takes textiles and charities will get something back for textiles that can't be sold that are given to them (better to put in bins in carparks than to shops though!)
Yorkshire Air Ambulance specifically say this on their website: http://www.yaa.org.uk/recycling/
I know we're all about getting clutter out of our house but I think doing that repsonsibily is very important too.
Good clothes ....ebay, boot sale, freecycle or charity (or friends kids)
Not so good clothes ....textile recycling (some charity shops collect for what they call the rag bag man)
Used batteries ....every shop that sells batteries should have a bin for collecting old batteries (noticed that Aldi have these near the tills)
Odd PC bits/cables ....ebay, freecycle
Oddments of paint/decorating stuff ....freecycle
Shredded paper ....compost bin, to a furry friend
Unused/unwanted toiletries ....ebay, charity, homeless shelter or womens refuge
Old furniture ...ebay, charity shops that sell/have room for this stuff, garage sale, or simply left outside with a sign on - saying please take me I;m free!
Feel free to add to this list everyone so we can all help one another get rid of stuff responsibly. :A I know sometimes for some things the tip is the only place but if we can find new homes for stuff so much the better :jDeclutter 300 things in December challenge, 9/300. OH saw an earthenware cup in the charity shop today, I said he could have it if he got rid of another glass in it's place, so 1 pint glass to go out, with an apron :TDeclutter 300 things in December challenge, 9/300. Clear the living room. Re-organize storage

I haven't posted on this year's thread but have been busy decluttering inspired by my Christmas present which was the book "No More Clutter" by Sue Kay. So today's output:
2 boxes of stuff to CS
1 bin liner of rubbish to Tip
1 carrier bag of kids' clothes to Clothes Bank
Nice to see some familiar faces here from last year's thread!

Decluttered 2 bags of clothes which weren't good enough for ebay/charity and one bag of magazines to the recycling bins today, now trying to think of more things I can list on ebay - trying to save ebay enough ebay money to buy the expensive set of kitchen knives I want from amazon.
Had a few ins today
Outfit I ordered off ebay in September  was coming from america and after waiting several weeks for it to arrive, the seller asked if I would wait another 10 tens, after the 10 days was up they stopped replying to my emails and because it had been so long I couldn't open a paypal claim or leave negative feedback so I was very pleased when it turned up out the blue today - seems I didn't lose out after all
Nice sum of money refunded into my account after returning a pair of boots a couple of days ago
Tangle teezer (£4 amazon!), will be out next month as it's part of my mums bday present.
Lots of shopping from tesco - which I will de-clutter as quickly as I can! :rotfl:0 -
In
Seven tops, acquired from sister as she was having a clothes clear out. I do love free clothes!
Out
Five bags of recycling from the shed (left over from a missed bin collection around xmas time) finally taken to the recycling point in town
Bag of stuff to animal rescue charity shop
Ebay parcel posted
PC desk and receipts drawer tidied. Most papers filed away or recycled. Still got a 'to do' list on the desk or I will forget! Need to sort out a filing system...
Pending Out
Keyring and top added to cs bag0 -

That's my eventual aimI want to get rid of all the junk cluttering the place up (I keep thinking there can't be much, but it's amazing how much you can get rid of if you really try), and from then on, if something new comes in, something old must leave in its stead :T
Anyway, better a quick introduction to accompany my delurking - I have been lurking for best part of a year, and getting rid of carp on an occasional basis - until, that is, about three weeks ago, when I set to in earnest in an attempt to make myself feel a bit better and a bit more in control of things, as there's currently so much in my life that feels completely out of control, and that I feel utterly helpless about. As me being ok and able to cope is crucial to the whole tower of cards staying upright, anything that can make me feel a little less useless can only be A Very Good Thing.
So, I started with a 100 in 10 days challenge, and by the end of Day 10, there were about 270 items out - mostly charity shop, freecycle and recycle - so I thought, what the heck, I should just carry on and see if I can reach 500.
Turns out I couldTwo days ago item no 500 left the house, and guess what ? I can still see number of things that are neither beautiful or useful, so why stop ? My next challenge is 100 things to get rid of by my birthday (just over two weeks away)
I generally don't really have the time and energy to list everything on here on a day-by-day basis, but as I found other people's post and regular updates motivational and inspirational, I thought I better pop up at least once, and say, I am cheering you on from the sidelines even as I am flinging stuff myself :cool:0 -
Right, I've started now - this is going to be the year I streamline! I'm aiming at a net of 100 out by the end of January. So far-
Out:
1 pile of out-of-date coupons -> recycling
2 pair of old boots -> bin (would cost almost as much to mend as they cost new, many years ago)
3 pair of "much loved but never really fit comfortably" boots to CS bag
4 pile of old mags & brochures from my magazine rack to Recycling
5 pile of credit card receipts - shredding
6 old lists out of 3 handbags - recycling
7 old lipstick - bin
8 some out-of-date food from the fridge - bin
9 some out-of-date unfinished baking ingredients - bin
10 2 dead pens - bin
11 pile of junk mail - recycling /shred.
BUT - In:
3 large Gok Wan toiletries sets + a No7 makeup set in the Boots 75% off sale today!
So I make that 7/100 so far - must try harder - and tackle the bedrooms!0 -
