  • Have a little rest TheDD and you'll feel better. Try and take out the stress on your stuff. I have a chiminera and burn twigs or leaves together with half shredded paper (shredder is overworked...) - and I think that very theraputic :A

Thanks mineallmine - I think I've been trying to do far too much in too little time (not just decluttering, other stuff too!) and it's caught up with me. I'm decluttering a cup of tea and a bun while fidding around on the internet :D it's making me feel better!

Yes, I get over-ambitious with things too. (House is now a complete mess as we are mid-declutter and I have sneaked on while DH is at the recycling centre; he thinks the forum is still down)

    Out
12 bags paperworky rubbish from my self-employment
1 old vacuum cleaner that has died (and we got free anyway)
bag of tools back to my brothers (they fix things for me and invariably leave half their equipment at ours)
    1 stepladder (ditto)
    1 bag plastic bottles (r.c.)
    1 box newspapers (r.c.)
1 big bag of textiles (r.c.)
5 bags + playmat to church for their next sale

    Still more to do....

I don't know how long you are supposed to keep bank statements for, but we have 8 years (only a year in current files, the remainder are archived in a plastic box in the bottom of the wardrobe). Utility bills - I only keep a couple of years, so that I can use them when comparing prices of energy suppliers (in the case of gas/electricity). I'd like to know how long you are supposed to keep them, though.

Not sure whether this is right or wrong but I keep stuff for about 12 months then shred them.

Got a charity bag delivered today (collect Tuesday) so the clothes I sorted out will go in the bag. They also take household stuff so going to have a look round to see if anything else can go in. Aim is to fill the bag.

    Well done everyone.

Hi, Can I join in? I really need a mammoth declutter. The tell-tale signs are every time we can't find something - which happened this afternoon - I realise how much Stuff there is! Plus whenever anyone comes to stay I spend the evenings of the previous week clearing stuff out the spare bedroom to make room for them.

thought I might get a lot of decluttering done this afternoon but ran out of time. sorted through my jewellery box though and got rid of broken bits and things I never wear anymore. put everything back neatly and the lid actually closes now. started on the drawer of my bedside table but not done it properly.

I've got a bag permanently on the go for CS now and plan to drop it off when DDs are having their piano lesson. otherwise the bag will just sit around for weeks...months...years!

Think I'm going to make a list in my diary of mini declutter challenges - things I can tackle in half an hour or so. But I really need to start in the loft. DH wants us to have a loft conversion and has someone coming round to look at it, so I can't put it off much longer!

Got rid of a set of shelves
All the tools, paint etc has gone into a spare cupboard in the kitchen
Understair cupboard now just has the things we need for self employment in
Also got a carrier bag of stuff to give to some children we know
Got rid of some old biscuit tins - the sort that will come in handy some day!

DH and I started to get a bit snappy with each other so we're calling it a day. He has just whizzed round with the vac so it feels like we've achieved something now - it didn't before.

Have a bit more to do in the morning so hoping to get rid of a filing cabinet.

I need some better storage really but I can't decide how best to organise it. Still we can see the floor again so am pleased about that.

Hello, not been on here for a few days but have been busy. Took 7 sacks to charity yesterday and have 4 sacks of stuff to ebay! Listed 13 things so far, still loads to do but it always seems to take me ages just to list one item lol. Have been given aload of books and old toys for me and boys though and don't know what to do with them! You can actually see across our loft now and walk into it, amazing for me! House looks a total mess now due to tons or ebay clothes waiting to be photographed, and lots more hanging arouns in packaging grr! Well done to everyone, keep it up! x
