  • I was on a declutter mission yesterday and manage to clear out a chest of drawers, understairs cupboard, DDs Toybox and bedroom, and my wardrobe.

I got rid of 4 bin bags of rubbish, 2 bags of toys for car booting, and numerous cardboard boxes for recycling.

I still have lots to declutter, but feel so much better now the house looks much tidier.
When my daughter returned from her grandparents yesterday and walked into her room, she said in disbelief "Mummy, its TIDY!" :rotfl:

    Electic_comperella, lol Glad I gave you a giggle!:rotfl:

House is slightly tidier, have a car full of charity bags I keep forgetting to donate, so MUST do that today.
DD1's bedroom is still a tip, I made her bed and dusted, but thats it :o

Have devised a flylady-esque cleaning routine so I do a different section of the house each day, which seems to be working.

    In:
2 large bags of CHristmas Presents - but 2 presents were bought on someones behalf so they'll be out soon (but back in my house at Christmas!)
Some Christmas chocolate - but I ate it :o:o:o
A teddy bear from Rainbows but we only have him for a week!

And soon to be out a huge ( I mean HUGE) stuffed horse, which will hopefully be donated to my Nanny's care home for their bring and buy sale, fingers crossed they want it!

I do worry that I will forever be living in a house that is in the midst of being tidied, but never actually being tidy!

Yesterday I finally took a bag of tatty clothes (mostly socks and undies) to textiles recycling, and also put the metal legs from an old Christmas tree into the metal recycling bin. Today I did a small pile of shredding, and finally mended all the socks I've had in a bag beside the sofa for a few months, so that has cleared a small space.

I've just noticed that I have a bid on one of our games consoles on ebay, and there are 2 people watching it, it's the only thing with a bid on out of 108 items but it's a start, lol!

I'm the same as both of you, I do wonder whether our house will ever be completely tidy. Even if I do get things looking great, DD1 comes home from school and there's a book bag chucked on the sofa, coats, shoes and bits of 'stuff' which I honestly don't know where it comes from!

Anyway, I have good news on the decluttering front! Remember I said we'd listed half our car booting stuff as a job lot on ebay? Well it has 3 bids - not for a huge amount of money, but it'll mean a few pounds in our pocket and loads of space in the garage. No doubt that space will be re-filled with stuff, but it will be stored in the garage and not the house/conservatory :T

I took some of my crafty bits to a local toddler group this morning and managed to sell quite a few things so that's more space gained...but it also means that as I have some craft fairs lined up (1st one on Sat!) I will need to buy lots more things tomorrow, so lots more ins, but hopefully the vast majority will get sold and any that don't I'll give as Xmas pressies myself. So because of this our dining room looks like a bomb site :o

Edited to add: I finally used up the last of a large bottle of bubble bath last night, I tend to a shower but thought I'd treat myself to a bath and I've recycled the bottle and lid at long last :)

    same here:o

Loads to do today - house is tip again. Spend most weekends trying to keep on top of what was achieved only to turn round and find the clutter pixies are back!

I'm jumping in again - I need the motivation of writing down what I need to achieve and the pleasure of crossing things off of my list!

I work from home so I have a lot of paperwork/stock and yesterday managed to sort through a lot of it and dispose of 3 carrier bags of paperwork for recycling. I have one cardboard box of paperwork that needs to be burned and I am working my way through that as and when the weather is up to getting the fire pit going outside - I may buy a shredder as, although tedious, I'm sure that it would be much quicker!

I cleared out 6 boxes of paperwork and the boxes are all in the garage - flattened and ready to be recycled.

I am out tonight and busy from about 2 o'clock tomorrow so i have limited time this weekend so these are my priorities:-

Sort out the remaining four boxes of stuff in the lounge and recycle/file whatever is in them.

Sort out at least one box of clutter from the spare room. I think that there are about 4 boxes to sort in total.

Iron for 2 hours (can I class shrinking the ironing mountain as decluttering?)

Unpack the glasses that I was given into the recently emptied kitchen cupboard.

Unpack the new vacuum and add empty box and the emptied boxes (see above) to the collection of empty boxes in the garage!

Order the attractive storage boxes online to help keep the lounge tidy.

    And off I go...

Just back from a few days holiday and really glad that I made the effort to make sure everything was spick and span before I left and unpacked as soon as I got back. Washings are all done and I can enjoy my last day off tomorrow. The spare room is still full of car boot stuff (I really need to get round to it soon!) but the rest of the house is respectable enough. I haven't reached my decluttering goal yet but really starting to feel the difference. Just being able to put clothes away without having to squeeze drawers shut and things like that really helps to keep me motivated to stop hoarding and try keeping on top of the little things.
