The Great Declutter Part 3 - 2011

Morning all,
I have big plans for today since my OH travelled early this morning and wont be back until Friday. Today's plan is to finish the ironing, sort out my mail that is making the hallway looking messy (luckily for my OH sorted out his mail last night without me asking) and then I want to make a list of what we have in the fridge and freezers to stop us buying unnecessary food.
Last weekend my OH sorted out the garage at last without me prompting, so that is another thing that can come of the list.
Good luck with your decluttering. No toiletries challenge, started 18/1/2010 - Putting £1 in my savings jar for every item that I use up. Pot 1 to 4 = £261. Pot 5=£23

Morning everyone,
Attacked one of the spare rooms yesterday with a friend in tow. Worked like trojans but I can now see carpet and a bed in that room (I know!). About 2 black bags of rubbish, 2 bags of recycling, about 6 little bags for the charity. Did a rework on the airing cupboard too. Was ruthless here too, getting rid of bedding that was expensive but I just don't like now. All crammed in the back of the car ready to be delivered to a charity shop in next few days.
Today is a blitz on the living room - getting the floor clutter free and the side tables.Declutter 300 things in December challenge, 9/300. Clear the living room. Re-organize storage

I have slowed right down here, but I am hoping to do some seriously sorting today.
I feel a bit sick at the moment so am sitting still till it passes!
I just want to put a list of jobs here to keep me motivated.
1. gather the charity shop stuff. put in the car
2. put sheets in washing machine, air new duvet cos it smells funny. ditto pillows.
3. empty out shed
4. put cupboard into shed(that looks deceptively easy written down) and fill up shed again......
5. put marking in the hall
6. move "paperwork baskets" upstairs
7. School basket can stay in the hall.
8. little tables and tins (don't ask) in the other shed.
9. move furniture round in conservatory
10. clean conservatory as I go.
11. Fish tanks
12. Guinea pigs
Wish me luck folks!Nevertheless she persisted.0 -
well, my decluttering has come to a standstill. the house is generally tidier, but still a way to go yet. my front porch is piled high with 'stuff' that needs selling/ebaying, but it's slow going. i'm at the point where it might just all go to the tip! but then i think of all th wasted money and how skint I am...:(

I know that feeling. Got a whole load of stuff ready for another car boot but things keep happening and never quite get there. Thinking about the £60 we raised last time is the only thing that stops me flinging it all in the bin.
It's a long weekend here so back to the declutter today. I was away last weekend and OH was at home decorating so I've spent all week just trying to catch up on general housework so decluttering just hasn't been happening. Desk and computer left the house last weekend though so today will need to start with finding places for all the stuff that was in the desk - may need a trip to the shops for some shelves!
Keep up the good work everyone!:TThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

LOL. I've packed one son off to Uni. Number 2 son goes next week so decluttering is on hold till we've got him moved in.
I had to laugh at DS1 - he asked me to look for a letter he'd left behind. 'It's on my windowsill,' he says. Meanwhile, I'm thinking, 'Oh no it isn't, not anymore.' He wouldn't recognise his room. :rotfl:Am I a cruel mum?0 -
I've had a wicked busy day! MiL came round at 9am (she was surprised I was back from the school run already!) to help me with the garden. She trimmed a large hedge at the back and got 2 green bags full from it. She then painted the shed (twice) and all the fencing. I washed, dried and put away 4 loads of washing and painted a huge amount of the outside of the house. MiL cut the lawn and started the edges. We worked until it got dark (7.40) apart from stopping for a bath and she went to get DD whilst I went to get DS from school. We have almost finished off the tub of shed and fence paint as we decided to get on and repaint the gate and the table. Both looked ready for the dump but now have a new lease of life. I do need to repair the gate though. We have resited the BBQ and the table and tomorrow I will put the chairs out around the table so that it's usable all the time. I may also dig the umbrella from the shed to keep the rain off the table. Worried it may rot the canvas but I never use the blimmin thing otherwise. I wonder where the base is?
Best see how I get along tomorrow.
Unfortunately, I am unable to do the top of the house (I've a 1905 stone house with sandstone around the windows and on the corners like these http://www.fotolibra.com/gallery/702320/ve-day-weston-super-mare/) due to ladder height issues (Ie, I can't get that high up the ladder without wanting to vomit) but I'm cracking on with as much as I can and will get DH to do the rest. I can climb out of the bathroom window to do that and can climb out of DD's to do around hers. DS's windowsill is crumbling so needs repairing first.

I've spent the last couple of days reading a thread on and off on the debt free board about things you never thought you could sell on ebay and it's had the two fold effect of motivating me to get some stuff listed again that we've been saving up, plus it's making me want to search the house for unusually things to try and sell! We could do with some extra pennies in the run up to Christmas so I put 19 things on yesterday (all 99p starts) and one got a bid on it within 10 minutes, and now has 2 watchers on it, plus a watcher on one other thing. I don't think most of it will sell, but the listings are on ebay now so I can relist away to my hearts content until they go off to the charity shop
I skimmed the top of the ironing pile yesterday but didn't get chance to do any today, and although it's not really got messier the house hasn't got any tidier despite me binning/recycling bits and pieces as I go around. I'm promising myself now that we WILL do something about the house this weekend, especially as I think the DDs will be on one of their few and far between visits to their dad's.
Grrr, just wish I could muster some motivation from somewhere, but feeling tired all the time doesn't really help. In a moment of extreme tiredness at the weekend I snapped at OH that I hated living here and hated the house...when in realitity I love, love, love it. Didn't really help that DD2 has just had a birthday so there were balloons and toys all over lol. I'm determind to get the house looking how I want it ready for winter and Christmas.Extra savings aim for 2020 £4,000 £0/£4,000
