I have a plan more or less , and thats to tackle the clutter before it gets too bad. I only have a 2 bed 2 up 2 down , but 16 years with the same man and 9 moves made it so . So the plan is tackle each room one by one , then jointly attack the loft with the hubby and a skip :) we still have uni notes from 1997 :eek:so i intend to get rid of as much as need be .

Just finished 3/4 of the kitchen now. Thrown away 2 bags of rubbish and 2 bags of recycling from it. Also got rid of old tray that is just taking up space, and another porcelain doll that I bought from charity shop.

Why do you keep them for a year, then throw them away? I'm just curious!!

A bit morbid maybe, but it's so that if anyone dies between one Christmas and the next, the one I've kept from the previous year would be the last one I ever got from that person, and I would then keep it permanently, I'm really glad I kept the last one from my mum.

Today I managed to sort about half of the paperwork in the bedroom, got a lot filed and have 2 bags for recycling, although 1 lot needs to be shredded first, also got a pile of used envelopes to take into work on Thursday. Tomorrow I am determined to tackle the 'cupboard of doom', lol, and I may take before and after photos. I will make sure I have plenty of loud music to help me through it, and hopefully the cat will keep out of the way and not go exploring in the cupboard, lol!

Wow, BatOutOfHell - that's a lot of clutter but I think you will be able to get through alot of that pretty quickly as when you sort through it I expect you'll find you don't need alot of it and it can go straight to charity shop/ebay/freecycle/recycling. Looks like under that clutter you have a nice big house so it will be so amazing once you start to see the results of the decluttering!

I want to take pictures of my clutter now to show, I'll try tomorrow :)

Today I sorted a big box of paperwork and other junk, paperwork is by the fireplace ready to be burnt as needed and junk is now in bin and where possible recycling. I've also added to pictures in frames, 2 videos and a book to the charity shop bag.

Not much in today just 2 packs of chicken drumsticks!

:T to BatOutOfHell for being brave! You're actually ahead of me in that you can see the floor in your house  and I would be mortified to post photos of our place as it is now.

Tonight when I came home I have managed to clear 3 big bags of rubbish out from our bedroom, as well as general wrappers and things, I also chucked some old birthday cards and rubbish photos and half full bottles of toiletries that will never get used. These are the kind of things I'd normally have trouble letting go of but I was ruthless, quite proud of myself actually. Now to keep this mindset for the rest of the house! :o

Also, something I found has really helped me is to have a place for everything to go, which sounds really silly but usually when I tidy I will put things in piles on the bed or sofa and just keep adding to them, then when it's time to go to bed and I find it's buried under a mountain of stuff I just move the piles back onto the floor where they slowly just turn into mess again :o So now I have loads of boxes lined up, each for a specific thing, then when I'm finished todying it's so much easier to put them back neatly as well as being more organised that way. Otherwise I just end up moving the mess around instead of actually sorting it out!

Hello mind if I jump in late - have just gone part time and this house is a dump...so will report here (main reason for order out of chaos - misplaced passport...ouch expensive replacement on order!)

    Will get serious this weekend:beer:

That's exactly what drove me to this thread! :rotfl: Thankfully I found mine, as it would have been annoying to replace (foreign).

Not much today as it was my first day back at work. But the Christmas cards and last year's calendar were recycled this morning. Not buying a calendar this year, so that's one item that won't have to be decluttered next year! :j

Now I'm going to take a quick look through our DVD cabinet to make room for DH's latest purchase (which was spending a store specific gift card, we try to rent most DVDs). Definitely trying to follow the one in, one out rule there.

Well done for posting BatOutOfHell a couple of hours going round collapsing cardboard boxes, filling the car boot if you have one and taking those shoe boxes, empty packaging boxes for things out of guarantee etc etc and I'm sure you'd make a big difference. I see you've got lots of paper boxes in the photos, OH and I both can bring these home from work and I don't think it's a good idea - they are so easy to fill with stuff and shove in a corner!

Sue14 I'm exactly the same with cards, as someone who has 2 cards from her 5th birthday signed love Nannie and Grandad and 2 from her 6th birthday signed love Grandad I always keep cards until my next birthday, I only keep ones from my husband as a rule though after that - I write the year on the back and have them all together in a really useful box. We had a huge heap of stuff behind a chair and it took a whole day last October to sort and was very hard but worth it in the end.

Nothing in today - post all general rubbish so straight into recycling
Well paperwork from car service but already in filing tray ready to be put into cabinet when we do the next batch.

Out (all in piles ready to go into garage in the morning)
Packaging from Christmas presents/bits bought last week when away and items put in correct rooms even if not away.
Dinner made from bits in cupboards, fridge and freezer and leftovers frozen for lunch one day this week.
    Some chocolates...
Lots of receipts shredded as doing accounts and a bit behind.

Think it's fair to say I'm mid-tidy looks worse than it did when we got home from relations on Saturday but in right direction and one more day of holiday left....
