The Great Declutter Part 3 - 2011

I made my OH do some decluttering in his 'cave' yesterday, it was a nightmare. I kept unearthing empty envelopes - what is the point of opening a letter and then keeping the envelope?? And more often than not, the junk letter or leaflet that came with it? Old bus / train tickets, faded receipts, leaflets for old computer games, cables, chargers, packaging, old juice bottles, clothing tags, plastic bags, an advent calendar from 2008 at the latest... Kim and Aggie would love it.
Still, we managed to fill the recycling boxes twice over (I hope they come around soon!), I decluttered some very tasty Toblerone and we located a portion of the desk under the toppling piles of papery rubble. I couldn't persuade him to part with an old broken printer though.0 -
I've done my decluttering for today. The main bedroom is done
3 bags for the charity shop, 2 for the bin & a load of things for recycling. I've also put some things on freecycle. It really does feel good to have made progress

I have been plodding on slowly but surely - and freecycled some stuff (awaiting pick up).
I should really do something big with the clothing and bedding in the house but that would involve pulling everything out and I dont think I have the energy to put it all back.

Right , Spent 2 hours in the bedroom rooting through the underbed boxes , ended up with another bag for the CS . A box of magazines for recycling , these need to go to the tip as my bin is full and 2 bags of rubbish . Next pase is to declutter the wardrobe , but that will have to wait till tomorrow as im knackered and baby is doing somersaults , as it was all night preventing me from sleeping. Been told to sit down by DH by FB anyway , so will do as Im told.
Happy decluttering.

Oooh, I would love to see before photos.. hopefully followed in a few weeks/months by after photos!
I have been thinking recently that I wish I had taken before photos when I first started my major de-cluttering adventure almost 2 years ago.
My main project at the moment is completely clearing the large shelf unit in the living room. It has ended up full of all the junk that we didn't know what to do with in previous clear outs and stuff that doesn't really have a home. OH did a little bit the other day, which got me motivated to start on it - in the past I'd been going up to it, looking at all the stuff and thinking "this is too difficult, I'll do something else" but I did some work in it yesterday and now I'm almost halfway there. Once is clear it will be taken to a local charity shop which also sells furniture. Will get started in it again in a little bit0 -
I think my "gentle" moaning/ nagging/ complaining call it what you will has worked.:j.
My o/h is a fisher man and has stuff everywhere, shed, understairs, in the bedroom , you name it there will be something fishing related in a room however small. So he thinks he has decided to clean out our porch cupboard so all his fishing stuff can go in there, :j:j:j.
Result!! I get a very messy cupboard sorted and his fishing stuff is out of my way. xxx0 -
Last Summer my Dad helped me move all of the rubbish from the garden, greenhouse etc to the side of my house. He was then going to come with his van and take it away. mmmm yes you can guess the rest. It's just made my house look even more like steptoes yard. Anyway my friend came and helped me move most of it yesterday and kindly allowed me to help fill his skip. I'm so pleased. A lot of what is left is metal and as he has a works van he can't take it to the recycling. So I'm going to take a few bits at a time in my car. At least i'm moving in the right direction. I need my fencing sorted out so the dog can't escape but am too embarassed to ask anyone for help with that until the garden is tidier.
Meanwhile I've another few boxes to take to the charity shop!! 100 items is easy in my house lol Hope everyone has a good decluttering day!!Toxic & Tired - Starting 2010 afresh :beer:0 -

Ooh, yes, I would :jbut now I just keep the current ones from family and close friends, and throw them out the following year when I get that years cards, but I've probably got loads in the loft that I will have to get rid of when we get around to sorting the loft out !
Why do you keep them for a year, then throw them away? I'm just curious!!
We've been out all morning, and just had lunch, but while we were out I sold some computer speakers to CEX and donated an old pair of glasses to the charity bin in Specsavers - so that's two things gone!
I might have a go at my bedside drawer a bit later.Enjoying the power and freedom of letting things go.
Decluttering - January 2024 - 89 physical objects, over 700 emails/digital decluttering 🎊 🏅🏅0 -
To the 15 items on Sunday I have added:-
Old grill machine - metal scrap man
Sugar container
plastic lids that don't have a box - recycled
old cookware that I have doubles (and more) of - recycled
old cleaning products and dw products I no longer use - containers washed and recycled.
As you can see I am still sorting out the kitchen - it appears to be a never ending job at the moment. Have you tried to buy cheap storage boxes recently??
So that makes 30/100 - 70 to go0 -
not got much done today as a friend came over to visit - but she went home with a book and cd I'd borrowed from her ages ago, plus a book and some magazines for her kids...so that takes me up to 40!
41. newsletter read and recycled
42. few toiletry samples used up and binnedweaving through the chaos...0
