The Great Declutter Part 3 - 2011

I've now de-cluttered most of my bedroom. Yay! Six black bags of rubbish - gone - and two black bags or so of stuff rehomed. For the first time in five years(!) I can say that I know what's under the bed, and it's about half the amount that it used to be. Easily accessible under one side now is a plastic crate containing my exercise weights, yoga mat and other small bits of workout gear. No excuses now, and I even used some of them last night (briefly!), so maybe I can declutter a few pounds too.
Just the contents of the wardrobe left to go, and then I'll be scrubbing the bedroom paintwork and washing the carpet. 'Sun stopped play' in here yesterday while I did a bit of work in the garden (much of this year's dinner is already coming along nicely), but I might start tackling the wardrobe later. I was kind of hoping to do this when I'd lost a bit of weight, but what little there is of 'perfectionist' in me can't leave it as the only thing still in the room that's cluttered. I've had a bit of an obsession with watching Gok Wan on 4OD lately, and I'm not sure whether this will help or hinder
. I'm not much of a telly person, but there's a lot more of interest on 4OD than I'd have imagined. I hadn't encountered 'Making Spaces' until someone mentioned it on here yesterday (thanks for that) and have already watched several episodes. I'm definitely going to need to get busy with the workouts if I'm going to counter the effects of sitting watching all this telly

HIa peeps,
HI MsHalffull- Been missing in action. Fuss and bother at work, OH not very well - life generally kinda stuff!
On the decluttering front I've been going with dribs and drabs of things. I sit today in the larger spare room and.....I can see the floor! Admittedly all "stuff" is sitting on the bed but it's a start. Also I have about 4 more loads of washing to do and....the washing mountain has been squashed to nothing! The master bedroom is still doing ok. Doing the toiletries challenge helped so much with that, no longer have bottles and tubes everywhere.
How is everyone getting on? It's hard to want to do stuff in this lovely weather. Anyone up for a 10 things in 10 minutes challenge? It's from a decluttering book I'm reading from the library. Bit like the fly-lady stuff. I'm off to do that now and report back laterDeclutter 300 things in December challenge, 9/300. Clear the living room. Re-organize storage

Too hot for me to run around doing 10 minute challenges! :rotfl:However, interested in your library book.....what's it called, and who's it by?
Many thanks, NicNocs0 -

I was a big fan of Gok Wan's series where he redesigned he wardrobes for ordinary women. I had actually already decluttered my wardrobe and made a capsule wardrobe. The feeling of relief I got when I had to choose clothes to wear was great. Because there was hardly anything there, I didn't struggle to choose. Because there is less, it lasts longer as it doesn't get ruined in storage. I buy more expensive nicer clothes now which make me feel nicer but the CPW (cosp per wear) is probably the same or lower than on cheaper not so nice items which go out of shape after 1 wash or such like.
Here's a link to my capsule wardrobe if you're interested, total cost including a pair of pj's a dress and a pair of trousers which aren't shown...... £440 ish. https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/comment/42949508#Comment_42949508

Not done alot today as i spent time taking my suddenly, poorly tortoise to the vets.came home to wait on x ray results but Sadly, she died whilst there.:(
I did however give the clutter from the kitchen to my husband who is doing a car boot sale tomorrow.I also got rid of some curtains that were taking up space in my out cupboard.I have warned him that anything left will go to CS on tuesday.Tomorrow i hope to do some more drawer sorting.I also need to decide what to do with my millions of odd socks, that have accumalated over the last few months.I am sure near narnia, there is a land where odd socks go!“Love yourself first and everything else falls into line. Your really have to love yourself to get anything done in this world.” Lucille Ball.0 -
Elaine, sorry about your tortoise

I am having a whole house declutter, I am decluttering my life really!
I have freecycled various baby items, have chucked out maybe 10 black bags worth of stuff, and tonight have got 4 carrier bags full of junk waiting to go in the bin. I am being really ruthless.
When I get up I am going to tackle the chest of drawers in the kitchen.
I can't do too much per week for simple bin room!1,2 & 5p: Christmas day food £9.31
10 & 20p: misc savings £2.70
50p: Christmas presents £3.50
£2: holidays £2.000 -
Elaine, so sorry to hear about your tortoise. Was she very old?
Not done anything but I have managed to get the washing done and dried so that's all good. DH realised that he'd not hung out the towels I washed on Friday night when I got up at 3pm Saturday and hurriedly flung them out. I did say not to bother, I had just heaved them out of the machine and would have done them but bless him, he did. I got the next 2 loads done. Unfotunately, in my tired state, I have hung out the whites and forgotten to check that they could come in (they ought to have been dried) and so left the blues in the wm wet. Hopefully DH won't have spotted this as I'm stuck at work now until 8.30am and can do it in the morning. That'll save any ironing but if he gets it in, it'll need ironing. I'll hang out the blues before I go to bed and put the next load on. I'm sure the little people had dark colours on today (enough to make up my load as I've not quite enough there yet). Just need to ask DH to sort and put away the 2 blue loads then tomorrow so that we can go out for the day on Monday without worries as all the washing is done. Better get him to get the kids PE kits in their bags tomorrow though as don't want a mad rush on Monday night/ Tuesday morning!
Very excited about having a day to myself on Tuesday. I WILL vax the carpets. I will get the grunge cleared out. I will empty my kitchen cupboards and make a proper meal plan. There's lots I WILL do (let's see shall we).

I used to make hobby horses out of old socks when I was a kid. Eye each side (could use felt or bits of contrast sock), wool embroidered mouth, and bits of wool stitched with the ends left long for the mane. Then stuff (more odd socks?) and tie to broom or broom handle. Oh, need reins too - cheap tape or ribbon - maybe recycle some of that ribbon for decorating presents (have to admit to hanging on to that each Christmas for the following year!). I had hours of fun galloping around the lawn, but was always a tad cheesed off that Mum refused to take the broom off the handle for my horse. :rotfl:0 -
Not done too much this last week or so but I hope to have a blitz today as we have guests coming next week, its a good excuse to declutter.
Aiming for my birthday no.!0
