The Great Declutter Part 3 - 2011

Hi everyone,
I hope you don't mind me rejoining the declutter party!?!
I have been off the wagon for about two years and need to get back on - fast!
So, the rooms I have to sort are:
- Office (which might end up being relocated to create a large bedroom)
- Sewing/craft room - no room to stand in
- Conservatory - resembles a workshop at the moment
- Kitchen - huge storage cupboard which is full to the brim and impossible to find anything in!
- Lean to - needs clearing and reclaiming for workshop/recycling storage/utility area
- Small potting shed - no room to stand in
I started yesterday and cleared three large bags of plastic recycling and a bag of glass recycling, sorted and labelled boxes of tools that were in the conservatory that need moving to the lean-to out of children's reach, shredded two black sacks worth of paper from the office (ensuring some mislaid birth certificates weren't amongst this!)
I also listed on a local For Sale website:
- a large fishtank
- motorbike leathers and crash helmet
- PC Server and router
- BT hub
- Sunpipe
My plan for the next two days:
- Shred another two black bags worth of paper and put in shed for chicken bedding
- Move tools from conservatory into lean-to
- Clear lean-to shelving of junk, put up ladder brackets and move old freestanding shelving to garden ready to go into potting shed
- Clear potting shed staging ready to move to greenhouse and put freestanding shelving in shed
- Put up shelves in sewing room for storage
- Put single bed base on freecycle
- Advertise a hostess style food warming cabinet on the local sale site
- Uncover the motorbike and see if it needs a clean up
I have someone coming Saturday to look at the motorbike.
I managed to pick up some plastic baskets from Poundland last weekend and used these for the tools, adding laminated labels. I will get some more for the sewing room.
I have seen a table top sale advertised in May and am considering trying to get rid of some of my clutter here. If not, it will have to go to the charity shop. Thanks to MSE, I am mortgage free!

Well with the help of my friend Molly, we managed to practically clear DS's room. Several large black sacks went to the tip, along with a broken chest of drawers, and then we took about 4 black sacks of clothes and about 8 boxes to my daughters where he is staying.
All there is left in the room of his is an Ikea Chair that he has had for a while and loves, for his gaming. So he may come back for it. If not its useful in the room.
I still have the matteresses to sort out though. He took his sofa bed.
He has left me the big TV, but I suspect that he may decide that he will want it for his gaming eventually. We will see.
This has at least given me the space to start to make it my craft room.
I hope to move my desk out of the bedroom and into there if not today then tomorrow.
I will need to get help to move the boxes of all my fabrics etc though. When I die I will know that I have lived, loved, mattered and made a difference, even if in a small way.0 -

I was in on one of the older threads months ago but lost my way.My life and house is a mess at the moment and the only way i feel i can gain some control back is to get the house in order.Today i sorted out an outhouse type cupboard and it looks alot better.Tonight i sorted 3 sacks of broken old toys from my sons room.2 bags are for the binman and the 3rd is for charity. This time i dont intend stopping until i am satisfied. Its so hard cleaning with all this clutter.Hope to do something every day, even if its a small drawer.;)“Love yourself first and everything else falls into line. Well I had a burst of energy last night, and my desk is out of my bedroom and into the new "craft room", along with a few storage boxes of fabrics and things I have already made.
But my back is complaining now.
I am busy seeing family today, so I cannot do anything more until this evening or tomorrow. But I will try hard not to be bringing anything more into the house!
Its to go out!! (must remember that one!).When I die I will know that I have lived, loved, mattered and made a difference, even if in a small way.0 -
Hi Elaine - welcome back. I "returned to the fold" about 6 weeks ago after an absence of about 6 months. I have got rid of literally hundreds of items during that time and I'm feeling so much better for it. Sounds like you're already on a roll. Good Luck - love your avatar by the way...Have nothing in your house that you do not know to be useful, or believe to be beautiful.

Many congratulations on the amount of decluttering you've already managed to do! Hope you do well over the next couple of days0 -
Thanks for the welcome back.Today i am aiming for a small decluttering job as its my daughters birthday and i need to concentrate on her and my other children.I am going to sort out a wheelie trolley that stands in our hall and everyone dumps their items as they walk in!!! Its actually a tea type trolley and is being misused. Will update this evening, just to keep me on my toes.My biggest problem is going to be getting stuff out, because the minute you decide to throw, is the minute the family decide they want to keep!!!“Love yourself first and everything else falls into line. Morning all from a sunny Birmingham, today we are tackling under the stairs,.
It is full to bursting with my 2 youngest daughters "stuff". They are 15 and 12 and they haven't touched the stuff there for ages.
My 15 year old is in desperate need for a new bookcase, so we have got her a new one, which is too big for under the stairs so it is going in the living room and mine is going u/s. Anything they don't want I may try and ebay it , if not it will go to c/s or freecycle.
Have a great day all. xxx0 -

It's a thing that you fix in your roof to get more light into rooms...
If anybody wants me over the weekend, I'm sorting out stuff for a stall at a local vintage fair on 30th April and decluttering the contents of the freezer with a view to defrosting. And I think there's a box of choccies on the horizon as well, they really need to go:D‘Keep your eye on the donut and not on the hole.’ David Lynch.
