Well, of the 5 items I listed on Freecycle, I had no interest in 3, two people after one thing and 4 people after another.
Have chosen the peole to get it (hate having to choose, feel I'm makigna value judgement on "worthiness" and emailed the people concerned to say when they can pick up (from a hideaway outside my home).
Still haven't done my shredding, am exhausted by other matters in my life and place is a tip as stuff is all over the shop as I sort it out.
Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Morning all
Im new to this board and have spent the last couple of days reading it from the start. First of all thank you all for the inspiration and the many ideas given.
I have started in the last few days to de clutter a bulging house. Its not as bad as it was a few years ago but there is still way too much stuff in every cupboard and drawer.
I sell on ebay and have a room allocated for this enterprise:rotfl: but it keeps creeping into all areas of the house. My own fault:o
So yesterday cleared 1 bulging drawer in kitchen...its still empty.
intend to do aother today.
Sorted lots for recyling and burned large box of personal papers etc.
Heading now to youngest son (15) to tackle his room. Saying that he has decluttered his wardrobe and left a mountain of clothes in middle of his floor to get rid of. Most of these are hand me downs from his older brother. So some of these will go to friends son and others will be be ebayed or charity shop.
Good luck to all ... fling it all out people:)"You are never too old to set another goal or to dream a new dream"C. S. Lewis

welcome ebayqueen - love that you have a whole room for ebaying and well done for reading the whole thread!
Ellie83 I often have that problem too and a small pile of stuff tends to go from room to room, until I often decide I don't actually need the stuff. We've gradually worked out what storage we need and, largely thanks to IKEA, we have some pretty good storage now. Think what you use the item for, and so what room it needs to be in and then look at what storage you have in this room already and take it from there I think.
In yesterday:
Food shopping & Waitrose Magazine but I'm good at recycling these mags once read.
My new shampoo and conditioner, last lot lasted 6 months!
Few bits of post, recycled what we can/don't need.
5 things out/rehomed:
1. OH shoes taken from middle floor to top floor and put away
2. All the resuable bags scattered round downstairs hung back up in cupboard.
3. two pairs of my shoes from dining room put away.
4. Bag in Bedroom put away.
5. Flowers that have now died put in compost pile and vase away.
Tonight hoping to get in earlier and have more energy to get things done as I'm away this weekend and I'm sure OH won't do a lot on his own....Initial Mortgage January 2024 - £160,000

Wardrobe has arrived & ex-H has VOLUNTEERED to help me put it up on Saturday (Still picking myself up from floor at the shock of this). Need to quickly get rid of bookshelves before then to make room.

In answer to your question I put things in boxes or baskets when there's no specific place for them. As time goes on there are less and less things with no specific place where they belong (in theory at least) but having said that there are a couple of baskets which are full of things with no home, and are likely to stay that way indefinitely . Do you think that doing some decluttering of "big stuff" so that you can see a difference more quickly might motivate you? I find paperwork decluttering a very slow process. But wait until you are feeling a bit better - you can't do anything when you're feeling unwell. Thank you girlsIt made me feel better to know that I am not the only one with stuff that has no place! OH suggested as well that I put it in a box to sort out later. So I have done that and could finish the rest of the office area. It looks so much tidier now! I felt quite disheartened a few days ago, as you could tell

That would make me faint too :eek:0 -
I have managed to bin a broken plant pot and have sent 4 ebay parcels and paperwork to the accountant.
I must do more today or I won't reach my target.0 -
OH took the small coinage to the Coinstar machine this morning, only to discover it's out of order. It's the only one in a convenient location (otherwise we have to take the bus/train to get to one). Argh! An unexpected late birthday cheque arrived for me yesterday. so some of that will go towards the camera lens. Decluttering is non-existent just now - I had several terrible nights sleep and although I slept better last night I think it'll take a few days to get back to feeling like I have some energy.0

In the past few days I’ve been mostly sorting out some more stuff in the spare room. Most of what is in there belongs to DS, but as his flat is so small and mega cluttered he doesn’t have the room to take it, so I’m stuck with it for now. However, I am getting things stored neatly in boxes ready for him to take eventually, so I only have to dust the boxes occasionally instead of having to dust all the individual items, and I’m managing to persuade him to part with some of it.
I found 44 of his DVDs, and out of those he only wants to keep 8, so the rest will go on ebay on the next free listing day, and there were also 2 PS2 games and 2 xbox games that he doesn’t want to keep, which will also be listed on ebay. If I could persuade him to get rid of some of the hundreds of DVDs and games which he has in his flat, he could pay off his debts and have some room to put the rest of his stuff so I could get the spare room empty, but he won’t give anything up as he’s a worse hoarder than I used to be, lol!
I got a charity bag through the door yesterday, which will be collected on Monday, so I put all the clothes I sorted last week into it, but as they will only take clothes I’ve had to put the other 15 items I found into a box, ready for OH to take to CS next time, but I’m sure I’ll have a lot more to add to it before then. I’ve put 3 cardboard boxes into recycling, along with another 2 calendars and another bag of paperwork, and shredded a few papers (must empty the shredder tomorrow as it is full again), and I binned 17 dried out pens and a few other bits of rubbish.Weight loss challenge 2/10lbs

Last night I was pretty pleased with our efforts.
We:
1. Did all the ironing and put the ironing and stuff that didn't need ironing away (2 washing baskets full -oops) - me
2. Took all the recycling out to the garage as the bins inside were overflowing - OH
3. Stuff into dishwasher and on and washing up done - OH
4. Post gone through and actioned/recycled/shredded as appropriate.
5. Removed the last of my clothes from the bedroom floor - will try so hard to put things away at the end of each day - I'm rubbish at this.
So not really specific things last night, more normal every day things, but all will make a difference and all need keeping on top of.Initial Mortgage January 2024 - £160,000
