The Great Declutter Part 3 - 2011

My plan for the weekend is to sort out various piles of paperwork, either file it, bin it or put interesting recipes in our recipe folder.
My other plan was to continute to sort out our 2 sheds but now my OH have said that he wants to do it, which means I get on with the paperwork. Hurray!
Tomorrow we are also looking for a house that is up for rent which have forced us both to do some actioning at home to sort stuff out.
Good luck to you all with your decluttering. No toiletries challenge, started 18/1/2010 - Putting £1 in my savings jar for every item that I use up. Pot 1 to 4 = £261. Pot 5=£23
Boots points:£39.21. Extra money in 2012:£674.59. In 2013 £603.48. 2014: £85. 2015: £0 :j0 -
rejoined here a few weeks ago but have achieved nothing, but i came home from work early today and so far i have:
tidied out my chest of draws
tidied out my wardrobe
the result is:
two large bags of clothes and stuff for the bins, anyone know where you can recycle fabric i hate just chucking things
two large charity bags full of things.
carrier bag full of knee high tights in boxes for my mum, and unworn socks for my sister/neices
took bags for life bags back out to my car so they can actually be used.
i decided that if my clothes weren't even good enough quality to go to a charity shop then i probably shouldn't be wearing them, or keeping them in the draw/wardrobe!
I know i've got some skirt lengths of fabric in the cupboard which i'll never use and someone at work is asking for fabric to use on the tailoring course they've just started so think i will take it in for that person.
phew feels like i've finally made some forward progress.
I have told OH that he needs to sort out his clothes, he has at least twice as many as i have and never wears loads of them, but then he can't put away the ones he does wear. Trouble is he then complains that the washing is not put away - duh! wish he would knuckle down or he may just find that i sort it all for him.0 -

Hey Lemon tree. Some charities will take worn-out clothes to sell for rags, so it's worth asking themMy two local CS do. They usually sort out the clothes themselves but many people actually give them "rag bags" all ready
This weekend, no de-cluttering for me. What's worse is that I had to put away all my hard work and "hide" boxes and stuff because my FiL is coming to stay for the weekend. I really can't ask him to stay in a 1 bedroom house that looks like a bomb siteBut this time I didn't hide anything in tiny corners where it will be forgotten. Nope, I put everything in boxes, neatly stack on our almost empty de-cluttered shelves, ready to be taken out as soon as I can resume my de-cluttering routine
I am going to order under-bed storage from Argos soon. Great place to store winter clothes, etc0 -
So far, I have had a productive weekend. I have already sorted most of the paperwork out. One of my weaknesses is that I like to cut out articles that I either haven't got the time to read at that time or that I want to keep for future reference. Have you got any ideas on how I could keep them without cluttering up the house? All I can think of to set up a folder with plastic pockets.
Last night, I recycled a big pile of Christmas catalogues! It's a good feeling to declutter. No toiletries challenge, started 18/1/2010 - Putting £1 in my savings jar for every item that I use up. Pot 1 to 4 = £261. Pot 5=£23

Yep, that's what I use - folder with plastic pockets. I've got one with all of the recipes cut out of magazines/printed off the internet that I keep on a shelf in the pantry. It's out of the way, but also fairly easy access if you need to refer to it, and preferable to having bits of paper floating about in drawers.
I've given myself a couple of days off decluttering as I had two teeth extracted yesterday!I did put a book ready to take back to sister, but forgot to take it!
OH is 'building' my new washing line this afternoon, after the rotary airer broke last week. Hopefully can persuade him to take the airer to the tip tomorrow, along with a couple of other bits...0 -
I've had a very productive couple of days.
Yesterday my cousin came to visit so having an extra pair of hands meant that I was able to re-felt the sections of the shed & playhouse roofs that were leaking and make the broken windows weather-proof.
Then today, exH was true to his word and assembled flat pack wardrobe for me - even though it took hours. (gave him a couple of bottles of wine for his trouble because I was really, really grateful - there was absolutely no way I could have done it on my own. Wardrobe is looking really great & I can finally get all DS' clothes out of my wardrobe - it was full to bursting.
I also painted a storage unit that was dark wood and didn't go with the furniture in my bedroom - it has come out surprisingly well even though I am not the most meticulous painter. It has saved me from buying a new chest of drawers
I also decluttered a full sized bookshelf, butlers table & DS' old bike by leaving them outside the house - they were all gone within 1/2 hour of leaving them.
As I've been tidying, moving stuff around I've come across some bits for the CS but I will list them tomorrow as I've got a feeling that I'll find some other bits when I'm decanting stuff from one wardrobe to another.
Callisto - poor you - you must be feeling very sore after the extractions - you are doing the right thing by having a rest from decluttering. Hope OH is looking after you... xHave nothing in your house that you do not know to be useful, or believe to be beautiful.

OH took the small coinage to the Coinstar machine this morning, only to discover it's out of order. It's the only one in a convenient location (otherwise we have to take the bus/train to get to one). Argh!
When I exchange the coppers and 5p in my sons money box, I take them to the self service checkouts at the supermarket (Morrisons) and drop them in there when shopping.XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX:wave:XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX0 -
LauraMac - I will either use my coins in a self service checkout or large branches of some banks have themachines and the money goes straight into your account and they don't charge. I also ask in small shops when its quiet if they would like change as many are very happy to accept it as banks charge them for it, I think.
I have finished and binned some sample pots and binned some containers that I will never use again and taken bottles both glass and plastic to the recycling.
Also have a small pile of stuff that I need to ebay.0 -
Well I had to start to de clutter DD2 room mid week - just started on one side of the room and made my way round - got rid of soooo much rubbish from under her bed.
Re jigged her bookcase - got rid of the "baby" books - well she is a teen now so I don't think she will need them now.De cluttered the desk so at least she has some where to revise from - that's if she ever gets round to it.
Then I started on a pile of mixed paperwork thats been sat on the stairs for ages - mail, work stuff, homework, stuff from my hand bag and guess what I found?
:TDD2 Passport:T
OMG I am soooo happy - but have vowed to finish off the bathroom and DD3 room and mine.Just a pity we won't be jetting off somewhere nice but at least I know its safe.
Bought 2 passport holders now so at least they look bigger and bulkier so less likely to slip into stuff again - plus have put them altogether so I know where they are.phew.Crazy Clothes Challenge 2012 £57.20/£100,CCC 2013 £68.67/£100 ,CCC 2014 £94.32/£100

Feels like a very productive weekend. :A I feel as though I'm on a bit of a roll at the moment - parting with things doesn't feel very difficult at all at the moment. Let's hope it stays that way.Have nothing in your house that you do not know to be useful, or believe to be beautiful.
