Ok so finally bucked up the courage to post after far to long lurking!! And this thread seems the perfect home for me!! I am hoarder and love clutter, there have said it now, just need to get over my addiction for stuff!!!

I brought my first home almost exactly 1 year ago (god and I still have not finished the decorating!!) and there are still far to many boxes left to unpack. I moved from a 1 bed flat to a 2 bed house but have already filled it with carp. I just hate the thought of getting rid of something only to find out I needed it and having to go out and buy it again.

But the reason for finally confronting my addiction for stuff is that I would like my BF to moving in one day, just at the moment he cannot as the house is full (and I mean really full!!) with my stuff and there is no room for any of his belongings!! So I need to streamline my stuff to make room for him.

So here goes, operation streamline must commence, just going to have a cup of tea and a biccie first to build up my energy!!:D
2011 is the year to Declutter!!! Trying to live a more streamlined life!!
On a mortgage free quest!!! Interest saved through overpayments over £4K!!:D

I have just read this book: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Clutters-Last-Stand-Don-Aslett/dp/0898791375/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1299238175&sr=8-2 I was kinda getting all decluttered out and losing my decluttering get-up-and-go, but as a direct result of this book I have managed to fill a couple of bags for charity, and put a big pile of paper in the recycle box. Highly recommended :)

My decluttering of the X files box set has also slowed down a bit now I have reached Season 6 (out of 9). When the show was first shown, that's where I really stopped watching it regularly - halfway through season 6 - and now I can remember why, lol. Still, I am determined to stick it out this time, it just might take a bit longer than I expected ;)

As for other delcuttering, the holiday memorabilia box has been decluttered (about 3/4 went into recycling), and arranged chronologically - next step is to actually stick all the gibble into scrapbooks. Then it's the photos in the loft, the old laptop and the shed and garden..... Argh.

Still, getting there, bit by bit :)

Oh, and cutiepie - I read your post a couple of pages back, and I totally get where you're coming from - and I'd say that, as well as communication (for instance, I very much doubt that things being pulled from bags are done in order to spite you - in fact, the person pulling them out might well feel hurt themselves that their treasures are being disposed of without consulting them - you need to talk to each other in order for each to understand how the other feels, and reach a working compromise), the crucial thing is to create some time for yourself as a matter of priority. It might be no more than a 15 minutes to have a cup of tea in peace, but knowing that this is your time will do wonders for your sanity :) And good luck, I'll be thinking of you.

I just came across this thread and having recently decluttered as a result of moving house I thought I'd add a contribution.

At the new house the owner had left some nice metal cabinets in the garage (from a company called Garagepride) , very attractive in grey with blue doors, and I found them brilliant for hiding away all those items that would otherwise be around the house such as blankets, books, old school stuff, pots and pans, toys etc - and then you just shut the doors on these nice cupboards and you've got a tidy garage.

My previous garage was just a dumping ground and never looked tidy, I'd never thought of getting some decent looking storage in the garage before. So I've ordered another couple of metal storage cabinets in the same colour and they arrive in a couple of weeks when I'll hide away the rest of the stuff that's currently still in the small bedroom.

Anyway this is where I got them from garage storage cabinets

Also, at the last house I used to get 5-6 charity bags a week through the letterbox and never used them. However before moving I must have filled 12 of them. Yes, perhaps in the spirit of MSE I could have sold many of the items at a car boot sale I didn't really have the time with the house move and anyway it gave me a warm feeling to think I was benefitting somebody else. :)

    .

I haven't read that one but I have got Don Aslett's books on cleaning and housework. He really is good, sadly I have to get a cleaner in now as I haven't got the stamina to do a full house clean any more- I do recommend both his books and getting in a cleaner if you REALLY can't manage it!

    This weeks decluttering:

    OUT
    - Another ebay parcel - sold and posted
    - 4 magazines - read and recycled
    - Pile of DDs outgrown clothes - Put away in the loft*
    - More things decluttered from garage including an old curtain pole (which was in pieces!) - thrown away
    - Cleared empty wrappers and bottles that had accumulated in the car, as well as finding lots of odd socks (DD hates keeping socks on and tucks them down the side of her seat!)

    BACK IN
    - Our wallpaper stripper that was borrowed by a family member

    * We have kept ALL of DDs clothes since she was born and there are boxes and boxes in the loft. I will at some point get rid/sell the things that aren't worth keeping, but can't bring myself do it quite yet :o

Another parcel sent today. Bins were emptied this morning too. Lots out. The bin was so full, I wasn't able to fit any more of the carpet in it. Hopefully next time. I want it gone soon!

Gave away 2 things today to friends. Both were happy. And less clutter for me. Yay :) Need to blitz the lounge and kitchen. Both look dreadful!

Anyway up for a mini challenge? To get rid of 20 things this weekend. To recycling, freecycle, charity, friends, ebay or at a last resort bin.
:) Declutter 300 things in December challenge, 9/300. Clear the living room. Re-organize storage
