Kaz2904, we have a Jack Russell so a lot smaller than a Labrador. To me the pros outweigh the cons - I suffer from depression/anxiety and she is the reason I get out and get some fresh air and exercise which always makes me feel better (says she sat here trying to psyche up to go outside - will go in a minute, honest guv!). Dogs are a bit pongy sometimes; we don't let her go upstairs but I change her bedding regularly and bath her a fair bit - she has a love of rolling in [STRIKE]fox poo[/STRIKE] rose petals. They can cost a bit; she has cost around £1,500 in vets bills as has IBS so make sure you get insurance if you go ahead - it's vital. Also bear in mind the cost of putting him/her into kennels when you go away. Will you be around or will she be left on her own for long (over 3 hours) periods of time? Only you can make the decision; Pip's an ill mannered little monster but I love her really!

Done some decluttering; half filled a bag which will be collected tomorrow morning so still doing little bits.

OH has just(with some 'encouragement' :D) decluttered our garden path - we can now walk all the way down it instead of weaving onto the lawn to avoid brambles etc - and he's burnt the remains :)

Well I thought I was going to start decluttering DH's Videos onto DVD with the bit of kit that DDiL loaned me. The guys on the Techie site pointed me in the right direction & I sent for a plug that was needed. I got it all set up & going - thought I'd use a Video that DH had the DVD for just in case I mucked anything up. All seemed to be going well - got to the end of the video & programme said 'burning error' - I'll give it bleeping burning error!!! Going to chill with some sangria & have another think ...........
Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle

    :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: at the rose petals!
    Thanks for the thoughts guys!
I don't want to be all "ewwww, it's going to make my house horrid" I just really want to think of the cons because at the moment we are so undecided. DH has said about kennels for when we go away but tbh, we don't go away! We are going to legoland for 1 night in May but I'm sure we could do something for 1 night. When we go camping we would just have to look out campsites which are dog friendly. The tent's big enough for her to fit in. We have a dyson and (when we finally get the hallway done) we'll be having solid oak flooring put down in the hallway. That will give us space to get a wet dog in and dried off in the hallway and the wet towels could go stright in the machine.
From what I've read, if she's excercised enough, she won't cause too much destruction in the house. It just surprises me when I read all those lovely home magazines and see that they have a dog. They don't appear to have muck and mess everywhere. Mind you, our neighbours don't either.
My sister said that she would wipe mucky bloody stuff over the carpet every month when she was on season though- I didn't know that :o so we would definately be getting her done. I'd thought that anyway, I've no desire to be a breeder :o.

I'm just concerned that she would be sad with me in bed all day (well from 8 until 3). Everyone leaves the house at 8.30, DH comes home at 1.40 for an hours lunch break. I then get up and go and get the kids and we're home at about 3.40. Is it unrealistic/ unfair to expect a dog to have this pattern for 3 days a week (may decrease as work want to put us on 12.5 hour shifts which means 5 per fortnight for me) and actually, I tend to do Thursday, Friday, Satuday, Sunday, Monday, Tuesday. So really, she'd be alone Friday, Monday and Tuesday but if my hours are lengthened, she'd be alone Friday and Monday. DH is home at the weekend and always goes out with the kids so he could just take the dog with him.

Arrrrrgh! I don't wanna rush the decision!

It's been awhile since I last posted. Looks like everyone is cracking on though!

    Large box recycled
    Large bag of shredding recycled
2 bags of newspapers, bottles etc recycled

Tomorrow I'll be sorting out a cupboard in our living room that we could use more effectively if we got rid of the rubbish!

    Hi all,

I've not looked in for a couple of weeks ~ I'm on maternity leave and my work told me my flexible working request had been refused, after I was told previously it would be doable. So now we'll be financially worse off than first thought when I go back to work. It just made me feel abit down about it all. Sorry I know it's nothing to do with de-cluttering. :(

I got myself into gear on Sunday though, made a start to the living room - cleaned and decluttered it of toys. Just wish the rest of my house was nice and clean too. We'll all get there. :)

Oh horse, sorry you've had bad news. I don't suppose that there's any way round it as they'd already agreed to it? Are you in a large company?

No Kaz, it's a small company. Was told it wouldn't be in the best interests of the business to give me the day off I wanted - now we'll have to fork out for another full day of childcare and have my day off the same day as DH. Will just need to see how it goes financially, as my poor credit card has taken a battering since being off, and was hoping to get it paid off by the end of the year.

It's probably more a case of sour grapes on my part, should have known it wouldn't turn out how I would have hoped. Never mind, got to get back into the de-cluttering 'swing of things'. :)

Not much decluttering this last week.I have one wooden ornament and the 'Encyclopedia Brittanica 2003',which is not compatible with my newish computer.

I'm going through my dvds again, and have got two more to go,but hope to find more.

I might make a start soon on decluttering the cellar,it sorely needs it.

Took the paper and plastic bottles to recycling yesterday.

    Happy decluttering!
