Carload of rubbish went to the tip this afternoon (inc the backing for the new chest of drawers from Ikea - oops). Have cleared 2 and a half big binbags of carp from sons room. That was without even trying!!

Cue another trip to the tip tomorrow. Might go to Frankie and Bennys for breakfast (2 for £10 inc tea and coffee- plus I have a £5 off voucher!) afterwards to reward us for all the hard work this week. Will then spend the rest of the weekend cleaning all the mess that we've made this week.

Thanks to everyone for giving me the motivation!!

:) Nice to know I'm not the only one with the "fish" problem! My Computer Wizard tell me that you wipe data from hard drives by rubbing them against powerful magnets. I've only ever had an IT relationship with Fred, my 10 y.o desktop PC, so don't know if laptops even have hard drives, but I guess the principle is the same? In hopes this may have been of some help......;)

    Hello! :j

Just caught up on the week's postings and you guys are doing fab, I'm soooo jealous.
I spend all week cluttering and messing up my house then weekend is blitz time.

Couldn't resist the Tescos 3 for 2 on pet food so my spare room now looks like a pet shop! :D Well I do have <ahem> number of cats :) so it will go down quickly.

I'm struggling to motivate myself though. Think I've got the February blues.....anyone got any good ideas for a weekend challeng? I need a kick up the ar*e!

McCulloch :hello:that lady in the charity shop didn't understand the gift aid scheme, you don't anyway have to be working to do it, just eligible to pay UK tax. At my friend's charity shop, she often gets a lot of odd balls volunteerig in there (aswell as a lot of wonderful people!) - don't take it personally. Next time, firmly but kindly (this is you rising above her ignorance:A), put her in her place and correct her and remember that at least she is doing something positive for the world to balance her bad karma at her silly assumptions!!
Less stuff, more life, love, laughter and cats!
Even if I'm on the shopping threads, it doesn't mean I'm buying! Sometimes it's good to just look and then hit the CLOSE button!

Well, I have now listed 7 items and I have a watcher on the waxoyl spray I listed earlier.
Now don't you think that with all the carp we are all getting rid of, maybe we should put some in the freezer. Wasn't it Hugh Fearnley Whatshischops who was trying to get us all to eat British river fish? Maybe he has some recipes for us ;)

I'm sorry, the day of ebaying has clearly gone to my head!

This thread is so inspiring. Thanks everyone.

I now can't leave the house without taking something that needs to be thrown or taken to the CS.

    Today - a compass and a game.

It's wonderful too that I've come to appreciate more the things I do have and want to keep mainly because I can see them and they're accessible. I also feel I have more time to do things - which is an unexpected by product. I'm reading more, managed to get to the pictures and theatre more etc. etc.

Some of you have already mentioned that you have had similar experiences. Do you have an unexpected by product of all this decluttering? I'd love to hear about them.

What a lovely post. I've got a new cleaner starting next week (alas, I am not wealthy, just disabled) and I want to try and get things decluttered for her.
You may notice my signature about the Pink Rose Candle. In decluttering I am employing Pink Rose Candle Philosophy, which is using up the nice things I have to make me feel good.
The bathroom is starting to look less cluttered as is the bedroom. I've realised I won't have to buy shampoo or body lotion (excluding body butter) this year. I also intend using up the bubble bath that would otherwise be lying around for ages - I don't bath, I shower but you can use bubble bath as shower gel if you pour it on to a body puff.
Erma Bombeck, American writer: "If I had my life to live over again... I would have burned the pink candle, sculptured like a rose, that melted in storage." Don't keep things 'for best' - that day never comes. Use them and enjoy them now.

I've managed a slight decluttering today and yesterday (days off):

-sorted through one of the drawers of my filing-cabinet and a few papers have been shredded/recycled

79-3 more magazines out and two cardboard tubes from rolls of wrapping paper

80-4 more jam jars cleaned and put in the cellar

81- 1 plastic object put out-don't know what it is!Plus an empty CD box.

82- an electric cable put to the cellar.I have a bag full of various cables that I don't need but have to find out where to dispose of them.

The main thing that I achieved today taking everything I'd decluttered from the last 7-10 days to the charity shop,so really pleased about that.

The big bookcase in the hall will have to wait until next week as working this weekend.:oI'll get there.....

    Happy decluttering!
  • I must make an effort this weekend - things need listing to sell & tackle the girls toy boxes, I also have a few bits of my clothes that are not good enough for the CS but can go in the local textile bank. Also need DH to declutter all the bits he is collecting by the back door into the shed or off to the tip - old floor boards, empty paint tins, assorted tools, old cardboard boxes etc.

Good luck to you all this weekend

Hi All - not done much decluttering although my microwave gave up the ghost yesterday so DH took it to the tip. I had a microwave in the loft that we took out of our caravan - I was going to put it on Preloved or the Freeads but didn't get round to it so its now in the kitchen & not cluttering the loft!:j please - can it count as 1 item!!!
I had the email about ebay's free listing so I'm going to put some things on there & hope to get some more stuff out the way. I havn't used ebay very much so I'll just have to see.

Hope everyone has a lovely weekend either chilling or decluttering!

    Hello!

If there is a charity you particularly want to support, you can check with them, but my favourite charity told me they bag up the clothes that aren't good enough to see and the rag man buys them for £4 a bag or something like that.

    :)

  • Is it ok if i join??:o

My house is in need of a massive declutter!!

I have loads to chuck on Ebay, loads to take to the CS and sort out the loft so we can actually use it as a room and not as a junk room!!

I have soo many things i want to do this year with regards to the house/garden etc but i just cannot find the motivation!

    :)
