The Great Declutter Part 3 - 2011

I've finally got down far enough in the piles of fish(!) to find the 2 broken laptops - I now need some advice please.
They'll both turn on, but the screens don't work. One's Windows, the other is Linux. I've used both in the dim and distant past to access things like internet banking, so ideally I'd like to completely clear any info on them, but don't know how without seeing what I'm doing! Hope that makes sense.
Thanks in advance for the help.0 -

Got Age UK bag today being collected on Monday so that means the 4 extra large refuse sacks of clothes and the bags of DVDs will be gone! Getting our new chest of drawers delivered tomorrow so that should sort out the clothes in the bedroom.
This weekend I want to sort out the filing and start moving the books around.0 -
I have had a look at my list and if I don't go out this weekend, I should have my whole house de-cluttered at least once except the garden shed but I am not planning of doing that until April.
Only the following tasks are left
De-clutter under bed storage in the bedroom
De-clutter under stairs storage
De-clutter Utility room
I know I will have to go through all the rooms again as I am sure I will find more things the second time.

I did that when my laptop died (it was stil working, went to a local business for a repair and came back totally carked  ). We managed to strip all sensitive data. Get over to the Techie Board and they'll help you :T
I offered mine on Freecycle, and got loads of takers. It went to a scheme for youngsters learning to do comuter repairs - they needed as many deap computers as they could , for them to take to pieces :T:rudolf: Sheep, pigs, hens and bees on our Teesdale smallholding :rudolf:0 -

Thanks in advance for the help.Nice to know I'm not the only one with the "fish" problem! My Computer Wizard tell me that you wipe data from hard drives by rubbing them against powerful magnets. I've only ever had an IT relationship with Fred, my 10 y.o desktop PC, so don't know if laptops even have hard drives, but I guess the principle is the same? In hopes this may have been of some help......;)
