Are you not allowed to put extra stuff out for recycling ? We only have little boxes (collected once a fortnight), but whilst we are not allowed to put out extra black bin rubbish, with recycling we can put out as much extra as we want on the collecton day in plastic bags. Worth checking with the council, perhaps ?

Unfortunately not - the only time you are allowed to put extra out is the 1st collection after christmas. And then it has to be parcelled up with string - no bags allowed.

They wouldn't even take extra when we had no rubbish collection at all for a month due to a combination of weather and living on incredibly steep hill.

I'm still busy but not counting. I really should though as it makes it seem even more of an achievement. I'm going to find out if our charity shop takes clothes that are no longer sellable...if not my friends mum works in one that definitely does so she said she'd take them over there if necessary so thats good. I really hate chucking clothes in the actual bin...it always seems wrong. I've decided that everything that i collect now will go in a box for a car boot to do in the spring.
Like 2manybooks (hello and welcome!) I want to sort all photos out as well. That is probably a year long job!!! xx

    Hi Phizzimum,
can understand totally how your feeling about jewellery, i lost my Mum ten weeks ago and have inherited her jewellery along with other things and its this that spurred me on to declutter, as in, i dont have the room to keep the important things without letting go of the rest. there is pieces of costume jewellery that didnt belong to her but various other relatives (which i am thinking of selling on a second hand stall) plus broken bits of gold that i have already cashed in and used the money (£200 voucher) to buy a nice bracelet and repair some broken pieces with memories.
Have started today with the 100 in 10 days so far its 4 bags of rubbish from the bathroom cupboard, kids rooms and kitchen.
(Mum will be smiling, always hated my cluttered house:))

Hugs to you Ellen. I often think of my late parents, who died in the 90s, smiling at some of the things I do. My Mum was Estonian, the Dutch have a reputation for cleanliness and tidiness but Estonians lead the world. Mum did hang on to things but they were impeccably stored. I follow my Dad, who was Latvian and a bit more relaxed about things (understatement...)

I have just decluttered (with help from the family to give them their due!) a box of Thorntons mint collection. There are 8 left and DH is under orders to eat them tonight while I'm at work.
Tonights tea was 4 meals taken out of the freezer and reheated. DH was delighted and thought his would be mouldy (hmmmph!) but I just told him to get on and eat it. As there was a susiscious lack of anything else available and the kids had eaten theirs, he did!

  • Why not put them in the paper recycling bins in a supermarket carpark? I always take mine there rather then putting them in the bins as I worry about it getting wet!

I sorted out all by books on the bookshelf last night and have a pile which I'm going to list on ebay later and if they don't sell they will go to charity. OH has been instructed to sort out his books later - although his idea of 'sorting out' is just putting them all in the 'to keep' box  then we are going to paint the ceiling tonight :)

    Hi there,

If the books are fairly new and in good condition have you thought of using amazon? you add the books to your inventory and then when someone chooses your book they send you the details. They then pay into your bank account within a week or so. They do take a % obv but its less than ebay. of course if you want rid asap then ebay is probably the better option.

  • Evening all, i am currently putting items on ebay while typing!!
The computer desk has been picked up by some random freecycler, and another freecycler is coming into work fri to pick up the bits of computer there.
I have started going through mine and DS wardrobes, and i have also sorted through the car boot bags as some was more suitable for charity shop. We have also decided on date for carboot stall.

I have a box full of old readers digest mags - 1990 - current. Anyone know what i can do with them? Was going to take them to car boot incase there was a random RD lover there but not sure if its worth it?

Well done everybody!! Keep up the good work!! :)
